Xbox [BUG] Progress Rollback during Co-op Splitscreen Play [WITH WORKAROUND]

A few times, the game has inexplicably rolled back progress made. I'll explain what's been happening with the most recent example. All of the other times this has happened in the same way. It hasn't happened after every session of course, but it seems to be more common the longer we play before exiting the game.

  1. Load up saved game, we are on Day 24 of Fall, Y1
  2. Play for a little while, progress through about 7 in-game days - each night we see the message "Progress Saved" before the game progresses to the next day
  3. Finish our play session, and Player 1 navigates to "Exit to Title" in the Menu
  4. Game freezes for a moment, then crashes
  5. Re-launch game, go to load the save file, and we are back to Day 24 of Fall, Y1, where we started the play session.

A couple other notes:
  • We started the save a couple weeks ago as a New Co-op save, with player one opting to start with one cabin ready for player 2
  • We have always played in split-screen co-op, so no progress has really been made not in this format
  • When our characters sleep at night, we almost always sleep in the same bed in the main house, and we usually get our characters in bed around midnight if not a bit later.
  • This has happened at least once without us actually manually hitting "Exit to Title", most likely because the Xbox closed the app, and therefore effectively ended the play session.
  • Playing on an Xbox One X, latest console and game versions

EDIT: WORKAROUND

Over the past couple days we have been using a workaround with success (so far)
Every 2-3 in-game days, Player 2 navigates to the menu, and selects "Leave Game"
After a moment or two, Player 1 then navigates to the menu, and selects "Exit to Title"

We have found that doing this every few in-game days, and having Player 2 disconnect first prevents any crashes, and preserved all progress. Hopefully anyone with the same issues is able to find success with this method as well.

We are having the exact same issue. It has been really hard to diagnose this because we never get any type of error message. There was a point in Spring right after we started where we realized we had lost progress but didn't know how much. A couple other times throughout Spring, Summer and Fall we felt like we had lost a couple days here and there, but it seemed so nebulous like we were just going crazy. 2 days ago we played until Day 23 of Winter, Year 1 [I remember because we were only 2 days away from the Feast] and then the game hard crashed back to the Xbox dashboard. This was our first game crash so we didn't think too much about it, however today we are all back to Day 14 of Winter, Year 1. That seems like the obvious culprit to this current progress loss, but why were we losing progress previously without crashes? And if the game saves every night, why did we roll back so far rather than just a single day?

  • We started a new game with 2 cabins so that 2 or 3 of us could play together at any given time. Single player progress in our game has only happened a couple times since we started and no progress loss was noticed around those sessions.
  • Other threads mention 'Connection failed', but we've never gotten that. After every night we get the regular save message in each of our windows.
  • The game has only crashed once despite multiple progress losses.
  • It does make sense, per MajorPipes, that the longer we play the more likely we'll have progress loss because we usually only play for ~5 days at a time and then quit, and 2 days ago we played for around 8 days.
  • We've had different solo games in the past with 100+ hours and never had issues. Only co-op has this problem.
  • Console: Xbox One S
  • Stardew Version: 1.5.4

We will try exiting to title more frequently as suggested. Still, super frustrating because we don't know when we're going to lose progress, and how much will be lost.
