Best weapons for skull cavern?

I think the best weapon is probably the Lava Katana if you don't have the Galaxy Sword. Otherwise, good food for me is always Spice Eels and if you're broke blackberries are pretty good, otherwise just get salads. For rings, a Ruby ring might be good if you want more damage, but an iridium band would be even better. The other ring slot can be for anything really, but Slime Charmer ring or Burglar ring are my favorite options. ummmmm..... if you're still struggling just trade jades.

Spicy Eel is great. I might just expand my farm and then buy a CRAP TON of salads to go with me.

This one is good, yes, and Lava Katana is even better as Lew Zealand already said. I totally agree.

Honestly steel falchion is better than lava katana, especially accounting for its relative cheap cost compared to the Katana.

The katana deals a bit more damage, but lacks in speed, so if you're already someone who needs help in combat for a better weapon, sacrificing the 'spammability' of an easy bone sowrd/steel falchion for a tiny bit more damage that you have to time swings on is really not going to help.

You also have to pay 16,000g more for a weapon that's going to be replaced by a galaxy sword as soon as you get a prismatic shard anyway, so I wouldn't bother, and don't personally recommend the katana.

Fair point. I don't per see struggle that much but I would like to wipe out enemies faster lol. I could use that money for a extra barn and cows.

Boost your critical strike. It's so worth it. Buy a Jade Ring (assuming a slayed slime or fishing chest haven't already given you one or three) and, if you can, the Steel Falchion or Lava Katana (Neptune's Glave is also good, but I think you can only find it in fishing chests). When your Combat skill gets to level 5, choose 'Scout', then at level 10, choose 'Desperado'. I one-shot so many serpents (and bats, slimes, rock crabs, ghosts...) this way. Later on, I boost the crit chance and damage on the Galaxy Sword when I can and add the 'Crusader' enchantment. Then I can take out Mummies in 1-3 hits, too.

For food, I usually just use the free veg of the season for the first few years and then stick with Summer Squash or Broccoli as my main. If you have the Vampire ring and you're killing enemies left and right, then you'll rarely get low enough to worry about big boosts. If you are getting beat up though, either plant plenty of tomatoes & eggplant or build a fish pond and throw in some crabs. Crab Cakes (+1 defense & speed) and Eggplant Parmesian (+3 defense +1 mining) are good for SC runs. You can also eat the Spicy Eel that the serpents drop (they sometimes drop Crab Cakes, too) for a speed & luck boost.
