Auto-Petter Hunt is driving me crazy

This is my inventory after a 313 level skull cavern dive to find my first auto-petter.
I'm getting really frustrated.
This was at least 13 chests.

Can I check somewhere how many chest I've opened? I guess it's triple digits easily.

Do I reset the day and try again?

Luck is EVERYTHING. So if it's a High Luck day, maybe try 2 more resets? And if that doesn't work, wait for the next High Luck day and try again. I wonder about your Luck as on my only run as deep as Floor 300 I got way more than 13 Treasure Rooms, plus the 6 total Golden Chests.

Go on a High Luck day and use whatever the best Luck Buffs you have, Lucky Lunch really makes a difference for me, I have a Sea Cucumber Pond just to generate a new one every 3 days or so. If your Statue of Blessings also gives you Luck that day, all the better. This is not necessarily for the AutoPetter itself as Luck doesn't affect its chances to appear in the Chests, only to spawn more Treasure Rooms to give you more chances for Mr. Petter to visit.

The daily luck is the best option from the fortune teller, I check daily.

The statue didn't give me the Luck Buff and I only use spicy eel, maybe I need to grind for Magic Rock Candy first.
Really annoying that there is no other way than just luck with the chests...

Edit: just restarted, I forgot at least 3 chests where I get Totems or other unnecessary stuff...

I used Spicy Eeel for a while and I really see a difference with Lucky Lunch. Maybe I'm just imagining it but +3 vs. +1 seems to make a big difference. Also try Ginger Ale for it's +1 Luck as the buffs from Food and Drink can stack. Yes, I've been using Magic Rock Candy recently but that's only because I'm at end Game and have enough Prizzy Shards to trade to the Desert Trader each Thursday for a Magic Rock Candy.

For Lucky Lunch I have the Sea Cucumber Ponds and plant a field of Blue Jazz at Ginger once in a while so I always have enough. Just buy the Wheat from Pierre to make the Tortillas, it's cheap.

I get useless stuff like this...

I would say I am end game (my first run ever though). So every other ressources are not a problem. I can trade some Golden Mystery Boxes or Shards for Candy.

Oh I still get mounds of useless stuff like that (sooooo many Turbans and Sprinklers…) and end up Trashing most of it (which bugs me but what can you do?) but I think you'll find the increased Luck Buff makes a big difference.

To the point where you make questionable things like this:

Next time I'm coming prepared, are there chests on floor 400?
Those Magic Rock Candy look great even against that OP setup! The only thing I'd maybe add is 200 more Staircases just because they're the most time-efficient.

No Chests on Floor 400 so after 300 there's kinda no reason to grind for more levels unless you're going for something else than Treasure Rooms. 301 is as deep as I've made it (LOL made 300 at 1:50am!) and I'll probably never make it that far again. Those 3 Golden Chests are great but I've found 3 already between 100 and 200 plus all the other Treasure Rooms so IMO they really don't matter that much.

I wrote down all the garbage I found in the next dive, with the level where I found it:

23 - Golden Animal Cracker
36 - 2 Iridum Bars
50 - 5 Spicy Eels
76 - 15 Cherry Bombs
92 - Auto-Petter!!!!
100 - Red Slime Egg
from here with bombs and without the +5 luck from the Candy
136 - 4 Quality Sprinklers
139 - Auto-Grabber
148 - Seed Maker
200 - 5 Warp Totems Farm & 5 Mega Bombs

After 200 I used only bombs and it got late.

So, I finally got the first one.
A few attempts later I found two in one dive to 300.
And finally I found 3 more Auto-Petters in a dive to level 404.
On level 400 was a chest, but that was probably just coincidence.

So now I have one spare and the next goal is perfection. :)

Congratulations! Looks like high Luck finally made a difference and there seemed to be a pretty clear increase in the number of Treasure Rooms as well as the Loot quality with the Rock Candy buff. And wow you got to Level 300 and then 400! Were you using mostly Stairs or Bombs for those dives?

Holy moly that is a lot of work for a autopetter. Another reason to do Joja lmfaoo.

I'd give the same advice as Lew Zealand on this topic, bring staircases and ladder down until your magic rock candy runs out, then reset the day. If you're going to reset when not getting an autopetter anyway, there's no point to waste time going down inefficiently where your chances of encountering a treasure room are massively reduced.

Any one drop from treasure floors really are not that rare, so you're bound to get it eventually, so you'll only save yourself time and sanity making it as easy as possible for yourself

Question, then: if I have a ridiculous amount of staircases (I think 400), is it worth bringing a second magic rock candy and just spamming as far down as I can in a day, assuming that my only goal is to hit as many treasure chests as possible in a single day? I'm not looking for anything like iridium or whatever else you can get from skull cavern.

Yes, IMO this is 100% a great idea if it's a High Luck day and you have the Magic Rock Candys to spare. Take all the advantages you can. I'll take 2 MRCs with me because I generate more than I'm using so why not take advantage of the entire day? Now if you have a shortage of MRC, then maybe only use one and finish the day with a cheaper but still good Lucky Lunch.

In my first save I got one after Idk how much in game year's... And in the next three saves none so far. But since my current one is a little bit cheated, I have two, just one for coop and one for barn. I don't visit SC that much, mostly at the Desert Festival, doing the Quests for Marlon 😎

Seeing as @jan_flying documented their experience getting the Auto-Petter here along with their list of floors they got Treasure Rooms on, I'll expand on a dive I just did. I didn't record each Treasure Room level as swapping between the game and a text file really messes with my (lack of) concentration, instead I'll have a summary and screencap every 100 Levels.

Conditions:
Medium High Luck
day, good but not the best
1 Magic Rock Candy for +5 Luck for the first 8:24
1 Lucky Lunch for +3 Luck for the remaining time
3 Ginger Ales for +1 Luck the entire time
1 Lucky Ring (Forged) for +1 Luck
Rabbit Foot to Joja driver for that small Daily Luck Buff
No Luck from Statue of Blessings

So +7 Luck for most of the dive and +5 for the remaining time. If Daily Luck really is about +0.075 using the same scale as the above Buffs, that really doesn't amount to much.

So what happened? I got to

No! Stupid Snape always interrupting!

Level 394! My best run ever. Thanks for ruining it, Professor...

By Level 100, it looked like this:
100.jpg

That's 16 Treasure Rooms, the whole bottom row (Iridium Bars is 2x) and the first 2 from the next (Sapling and Spicy Eel) plus 10 Bombs. This includes the guaranteed Level 100 Treasure chest. 16 is a LOT.

By Level 200 it looked like this:
200a.jpg

That's "only" 9 more Treasure Rooms and yes the Magic Rock Candy and Ginger Ale were active the whole time. Just randomly worse Luck as none showed up until the late 130s. It's the bottom 2 rows minus the Scepter, Lucky Lunch, Iron, and Coal.

By Level 300 it looked like this (before opening those 3 Chests):
300p.jpg

That's 10 more Treasure Rooms, by now the Magic Rock Candy had run out, replaced by the Lucky Lunch for a somewhat lower Luck experience, Ginger Ale Still active. Bottom 2 rows plus the Bean Starter and 1 more Diamond pair

By page Level 394 we got this after I passed out at 2am:
Final Tally minus DCHs.JPG

That's 8 more Treasure Rooms, but considering this number also includes the 3 Chests from Level 300, that's only 5 new ones. So that extra Luck I had earlier seems to make a difference. Can't be sure until doing more runs but yeah I'm not gonna document that. Just load up on as much Luck and you can make/wear/eat.

I Trashed the extra Cowboy Hats as I have zillions of them but there were 4 total before removal. Yeah I kept the Tempered Broadsword monster drop as I couldn't remember if I had one.

I didn't have one, I had 5. Oh well.

So this was fun but note that with all this luck:
I did NOT get an
Auto-Petter. More luck will not affect that drop so you just gotta do multiple runs, repeating the day if you want or going on successive days if you like the other loot and have the resources.
