Artifacts for the museum help!

I'll fish up artifacts with a treasure chest, or I'll dig the dirt in the mines or whatever, but it seems like I just can't find artifact spots in the mountains, Pelican town, etc. I'll find a few, but then I end up getting repeat artifacts.

For instance, I might get multiple Chewing Sticks in the mines, or I might get multiple Ornamental Fan's through fishing or through the forest or whatever.

If I find an artifact spot, more times than not it's clay, or a lost book, or stone. Sometimes, I'll get lucky and get an actual artifact from the spot, but it doesn't seem like it happens a whole lot for me. Am I going on the wrong days to look? Do they reset like the forage? Is there only a couple that appear per week or day? (By Ocean, by town, by mountains, etc).

I know you can trade Omni Geode to get Artifact Troves in the Desert, at this point in the game I don't have the Desert unlocked though (New playthrough). Is there something I'm missing/not aware of, when it comes to finding artifact spots?

From the wiki:
Overnight, artifact spots randomly spawn in exterior locations at a rate that is highly dependent upon the map. Average spawn rates range from 0.1/day (Cindersap forest, bus stop) to 1/day (Desert)
Athere is a 15% chance of any artifact spot disappearing overnight.
This has more about spawning and here you can find the chance of digging up each artefact in every area

Thank you so much! I figured that there was something I was missing. That's embarrassing about the Wiki, I use it for things, but it didn't cross my mind to use it for the Artifact Spots.

I usually found a majority of my artifacts in the mines, but I don't know if there's a pattern to what spawns down there.

That's what I noticed as well. Items like the Rusty Spoon, or Rusty Spur seem to be more common down in the mines.
