Alcoholism

I get that there are people all over, most of us probably even, that have been negatively affected by someone's alcoholism in their lives (I have too), but I don't see how a little bit of realism in the game is bad and needs to be changed when there are ways to avoid giving Shane and Pam drinks like people have said. You don't have to. But they're in the game, they're the way they are, and you can either avoid some of their less attractive attributes or not, the choice is yours.

Some people can't use mods, so I don't think that changing the game in this way wouldn't be good at all. I do know there are mods out there that take out this part of the game, so maybe people can use those if they truly want to avoid it (which I can understand).

Sometimes the alcohol can be a little bit funny though, for you as a player. Anyone else get tipsy then ride around town at 12:00 AM on their horse like a lunatic?

I’ve always picked different gifts for Shane and Pam just to avoid feeling like I’m making things worse for them in the game. I get why you feel weird about giving them beer because it’s so clearly linked to their struggles. Usually I stick with stuff like pizza or hot peppers for Shane, and something non-alcoholic for Pam. Modding the gifts might be interesting for gameplay and RP, but I kind of prefer just adjusting how I play instead of changing the game itself. If you ever want context or real info on how people handle addiction or what recovery actually looks like, you can check Abbeycare’s website. They have a lot of explanations and actual guidance about the sort of stuff the game only hints at.
