A Stardew Valley rare event

Obviously this is just anecdotal, but I haven't seen this happen. So it's seems significantly more rare than something like a meteor, or maybe I'm just "unlucky".
Really? I had 2 trees hit in my first save before year 3 (had 2 of each by then), which is when I moved all my future fruit trees into the greenhouse out of frustration. I also built about 24 lightning rods over the span of a couple days after the second hit (already had 8). Maybe I'm just unlucky? I mean, I have 24 lightning rods by the end of year 1 in every save since.

It does for a few days, then will be back to producing fruit for you. Oh, and that's not that rare. 😉
Well, I have over 3,400 hours logged for Stardew Valley according to Steam, and I have yet to get the coal tree. Of course, I only ever plant one of each, so that probably has something to do with it ;)

I'm sure it's a combination of things. As the number of trees goes up, the chances goes up for one to be targeted by lightning... but as the number of lightning rods goes up, the number of lightning strikes are intercepted.

I mean, I'll be honest here, I haven't seen it in a LONG time. In my first save, I didn't know what I was doing. I didn't have enough lightning rods. Since then, though, I rarely see a lightning strike NOT be intercepted by my array(s) of lightning rods.

I had it happen once on my main farm where I have maybe a dozen fruit trees and 3 lightening rods outside. I actually liked getting a coal tree but so far only the one across 3 saves.

Lol, thanks for that as I needed my brain rattled around a bit in it's container. I have about 300 hours in-game and of course I've never seen a coal tree.

Because I've never planted a fruit tree outside. I never even thought of doing that or about the coal tree at all until someone mentions it here as being rare. If I actually plant a grove of fruit trees right now in-game, I might just get one by the time the Feast of the Winter Star rolls around.
