Switch 12/25/25 Switch2 Update causing control issues

After updating today to the Switch2 update, the button mapping keeps randomly switching to something that makes it impossible to play.

- Right joycon stick, no longer can be used to move cursor
- Right bumper no longer moves inventory selection right (can only use left bumper to go left in inventory)

I don’t know for certain, but it seems like it’s trying to use the new mouse controls, but I haven’t don’t anything to indicate I want that to happen. It’s just randomly switching while I play and all of a sudden I lose control.

The only way to fix it is to go into controller settings on the Home Screen and disconnect/reconnect the joycons, but I have to do it pretty often which makes playing pretty frustrating.

(I’m using the joycon “grip” that comes with the switch. This doesn’t happen when the joycons are directly attached to the switch in handheld mode.)

I’m also having this issue but even when I reset the controllers it doesn’t work. The controls are normal when connected to the switch and when the joy cons are just in my hands but when I connected them to the grip they change.

Just in case someone sees this and it helps:

I am only having issues with my right joycon, and it only stops working whenever I put it into my joycon grip. Once I take them back out, the ZR button goes back to functioning as it should.

I am still having this issue with the right joycon(ZR and right joystick controls). Pretty much makes us unable to play split screen co-op.

I'm also having this issue, but even when I disconnect the joycons it still won't work. I've just been using it handheld for the time being.

Yes, I’m glad to see this problem has been reported. Same here concerning the right joy con triggers when using the grip in the new S2 update. Everything works fine with the joy cons connected to the system, or if I use the pro controller. When I use the grip during a co-op game with my husband, I’m just compensating by having to go all the way around the item row in my backpack just to get to an item that’s to the right of my current selection.

Also having the issue. The joy con grip is definitely forcing the right joycon into mouse mode for some reason. I eventually just switched to handheld mode. Hope it gets solved, I love playing on disconnected joycons because I can lay on the couch and not care.

still the same issue, right joycon registering as mouse mode when trying to use it as handheld with or without the grip. It might be worth it to disable mouse mode or at least make it an option for the time being seeing as how it is affecting most people.

Thanks for reporting this.

We're looking into it.
I’m having the same issues with split screen local co-op. Did the update now it’s unplayable on the more comfortable actual controller. Right trigger no longer scrolls right in inventory. Only fix was to detach joy cons but it’s not as comfortable holding them and they are easier to input incorrect controls, kids still can’t adjust/play with joycons. Kind of ruined local co-op.

Is anyone else STILL having this problem?
