I'm hoping we also get pineapples that can grow into giant crops a la cauliflower, melons, and pumpkins.

Cept that Pineapples grow on Pineapple Trees and we're getting a tree. Although Pineapple Trees aren't very tall too.

Pineapples are an aggregate fruit (multiple flowers create a fruit which is technically a number of berries that merge into one structure, much like a strawberry) of what is a leafy plant and not a tree or bush at all as trees and bushes have branches of a sort and pineapple plants do not.

Yes, pineapples are ground crops, not trees.

You cut off the crown and plant it in the ground. The leaves will continue to grow outward and upward, and the fruit will grow out from that.
