How to upgrade pickaxe before 4pm on day two?

Yes, I want that upgrade it before Clint leaves his shop on day two, so I have to be there at 3.50pm.

I chose the hilltop farm, the best I've done is 38 copper ores, but not enough coal.
Spring onions is also a must, since I want to make a chest. Chasing coal and geodes if I don't
find an artifact from the worms.

I saw this guy doing this and also buying 10 coffees and 13 salads and then going into the mines
and reach level 68 first day. He did get 41 copper ores I believe from the farm, but was still missing a couple of
coals. (I'm scratching my head)

So he did the clay farming and just killed it. I have tried, but not even close as the lucky guy got
something like 6-7k in gold with just clay. I have tried many times, but it doesn't work for me.

If fishing was in the first day, this post would be moot, but I will have 9hrs to fish on day two
and even if I catch 15 fish, I won't even get close. Especially if I have to fish in the river or the ocean.
Mountain lake is always the best option for early fish, but it's too far away from Willy's and Clint.

So, are there any other crazy ideas out there that I'm not aware of? I NEED MONEYS!
Anything? Will need 2k for upgrade plus whatever I'm missing in coal and copper ore.
I don't care about the food, just give me that pickaxe on day 4, Clint.

HELP! My OCD will kill me!!!

Farming clay has nothing to do with luck.

It's a technique that is learned, because the RNG is not really random but is actually predictable, and you can abuse the knowledge of how it works to get clay with every swing of the hoe. It's not really that difficult to learn the pattern

The mines are not accesaible on day 1. Am I missing something?
This is my understanding as we get the Fishing Rod on Day 2. Joja Co. removes the rock that they accidentally left there during their knockoff Monty Burns Slant Drilling Operation on day 5 or 7 or something like that.

That was my first thought too, and besides, I don't get this urge for perfection and speed running in a relaxing game like this. However, seems like the hilltop farm was picked, and isn't that the one with a quarry of sorts of its own? Perhaps that is where the ore and coal was gotten, and the user keeps trying new seeds over and over in the hope of getting enough coal right away?

Hilltop farm helps but if you learn clay farming well enough you can definitely get enough to buy all the copper and coal with just clay money. That being said, another option (especially on hilltop farm) is to pick a seed where you get a lot of copper/coal in the first few geodes you break.

OK, I figured out the pattern. I got around 200 clay first day with a couple of salads, but that will not give me enough.

I'll put this in the back burner, I just had to try it out. I see this guy grabbing all this clay and I needed to know how it works.
And I know now and feel relieved, my OCD stopped after I hit 200 so I understand it's doable.

I have my forage run going and also the trash farmer, but I ALSO have my beautiful farm that I tend now and again.

Don't worry about me, I love to try out things like this.

And Elenna: This is what I'm trying to do. If I can super lucky one day and get 45 copper ores and 5 coals, I'm set. Or at least close to it.

But in the end, I'm not fussed. I usually only go to the mines on a lucky day, not in a hurry.

Glad to see you figured it out!
For anyone else curious, here are some useful videos:
Bull also has a second video with more advanced tips if you're interested.

That being said, I'm guessing you watched the min-max runs that BullTG and/or Piano_Addict* are currently doing? I haven't seen those but my guess is that in addition to the patterns in the videos above (which require no knowledge of the game seed), they also used the predictor app @BlaDe made, which can be found on NexusMods here (btw it's not a mod, just a seperate program like Stardew Predictor that doesn't affect the game code). That would make it easier to find a starting point (instead of repeatedly tilling and untilling a spot until you get clay), and would make it easier to clay farm in smaller areas that might not fit the patterns.

*Guessing Bull because Piano is the creator of and expert on clay farming and would get more like 12k+ gold in a day, not 6-7k.

But in the end, I'm not fussed. I usually only go to the mines on a lucky day, not in a hurry.
In that case there's very little reason to upgrade your pick early anyways, IMO - the regular pick still takes only one swing to break rocks on floors 1-39, so it's not particularly helpful to get a copper pick there. You can just get to 40, maybe grab some iron, and then upgrade.

But anyways clay farming is a pretty fun technique to have under your belt.

I assume he meant "the first day of mining" or "the first day the mines were open".

Elenna, yes I did watch those two guys, but the most informative was Tooshi: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIUeZZ14y54&t=938s
I saw this long time ago, but I thought it was mods. But apparently not. I love Tooshi, he's a Haboo wannabe, lol

And little reason means nothing to me, if I see something crazy I just want to try it.

And yes Uzzlegorf, I meant first day of mining, day 5. I should've worded it better, but my swenglish is getting worse for every year.
I apologize.

I didn't find a new chair glitch or anything. (now I wish I did). Think of getting into the real mine on day one???

Nah, impossible! No one is ever trying this. :hmm:
