Plant dies out of nowhere

Today I was playing in my world in SV and came across a dead plant. The thing is that is the beggining of summer and in this particular space I've never planted something before. Those are newly planted crops so I'm confused.

My SV is modded so it could be that but it has never happened before. Is this commun?

Well, if lightning strikes a plant it dies. Has it rained since you planted it? If so, it is likely not a glitch, but a feature of lightning.

Yes, it is almost certainly Lightning.

Most people that report their plants randomly dying either got very unlucky with Lightning, didn't have enough Lightning Rods, or they were experiencing a bug in which the plant simply disappeared, not wilted. From what I can see, you look to be in the second party.

How many Lightning Rods do you have on your farm? Lightning Rods don't have a range like a Scarecrow, they can be placed anywhere on the farm and still function, so there is no need to have them near your crops if you don't want to.

I would recommend 20-30 Lightning Rods, depending on whether this happens again or not.

Speaking of Scarecrows though, they have a very big range (17 tiles in diameter) so you could move/take down some of those if you wanted to.

Hope this helps!

You can get them reasonably fast by refreshing floors 45, 55, and 65 (go down the elevator, kill any bats you see, go back up to 0 to reset the floors, repeat). Also floors 20 and 40 in the skull caverns tend to have a lot of lava bats.

Refreshing those floors will also give you plenty of dust sprites, which can help get the burglar's ring (from the adventurer's guild after killing 500 dust sprites) which will get you more monster drops in general.
Also I find that if I use monster musk + burglar ring on the ice floors, I generally make back well over the amount of bat wings used to make monster musk.

I sometimes lose a plant, scarecrow, or beehive to lightning with just one lightning rod. But with more than 2 I never get a coal tree! So it's a trade off.

Save them as you progress from 40 to 70. Also take advantage of bat swarms on these same levels. I usually build 22 of them, surround the green house with them, and place a 23rd lightning rod around the green house when I get it from one of the vault rewards in the community center.
