50Percenters

I have reached 9 mil on my "healthy food only" farm and, predictably, got bored and started a new farm.

This time with the "50% profit margins" option enabled.

All I can say is yikes. My go-to moneymaking strategy of carping out the lake doesn't seem so viable RN. An iridium carp sells for 30 gold. And I only make 7 gold profit per parsnip, for hand-watering the horrid thing for 4 days!

And then, there's this:

Seriously, WILLIAM? You can't give me the 10 gold credit? It's 4:50 PM and you are about to close, who are you going to sell that rod to?

I am so reluctant to try the 50% profit margin. I’ll be curious to see how much you enjoy it.
It's not THAT bad. Yeah, you have to do things more intensely, but it's a fun challenge so far.

It makes you reevaluate some priorities and carefully watch each penny you spend, so it's a bit different than a regular playthrough (at least for me).

For one thing, I got AMAZING at fishing. Well, amazing compared to my previous capabilities. Previously, I mostly did just enough fishing to get maybe level 5 during Spring. Now, that's pretty much the only skill I'm using. I got to level 10 and got that +50% fish price. I'm CATCHING CATFISH. Seriously. So many catfish. Whiskers and all. I can't believe I used to think it's not possible to catch the catfish in Spring Y1, without the trap bobber. It is. I caught the first one on Spring 4, still using the bamboo pole.

Even without catfish though, and before Angler, you will be comfortably doing 800-1000 gold per day on lake or river fish.

It kills me a bit though to think I could have made 20K instead of 10K on that catch (that's 2 days worth of fishing):

So, I'm done with the 50% tax run and, tbh, it wasn't really difficult at any point. It WAS quite enjoyable because for once I had a reason to be making all this money.

Year 3 ended with 10 million gold in pocket, all quests / special orders / Island orders done, and 600 kegs pumping out starfruit wine. And 250 jars for jellies and pickles. I played the standard farm layout, so I had access to a lot of plots. Planting 1400 strawberries first day of spring is not an easy task! (I needed to do it in two batches actually).

I used pigs as supplemental income. One day I'm going to try to do it without pigs and maybe without alcoholic beverages.

All in all, I would recommend this type of run to anyone who played through the basic 0% tax. It's just fun, and it makes starfruit/truffle a little less overpowered.

Just two questions, or statements perhaps:
1. You can easily make more than 2000g a day with the 50%tax off of lake fish, with 0% tax you can make way more, every iridium large mouth bass sells for 250, with only 4 you can get 1000, river fish is more accurate unless you are using catfish, also, when was this sell date?
2. do you mean you caught those catfish on the 3rd? There is no way for the 4th to be raining on the 4th of spring year one as the weather is preset until the 5th.

Did you 100% the game?
If not, what stuff did you have left?

I might try a run like this, maybe not, it seems ok tbh, I'd probably do a 25% profit margin though and see my life flash before my eyes.

I actually made a run like this, I called it the Masochism run and while I haven't ran it yet, it sounds *really* fun.
It included:
Riverland farm
25% profit margin
Monster spawning
No using the watering can
No year one garantee
Remixed bundles

There were a few more but I forgot about them lol, I'll list them If I remember.

TBH I don't remember well now... It was either the first or the second rainy day of spring, either way extremely early for me as I generally suck at fishing.

I think I waited to sell the better hauls until I got +% to fish value.

I found some screens from later game (spring and summer) to give you some context - the money's not that bad, it just takes a bit more effort.

Nah, I never go for perfection - I never marry, and I don't even try to catch any of the legendary fish. (I mean, I don't even know if I could, the mere thought is scary so I don't). I just do 100% on the quests, crops, recipes, shipping, monsters, etc.

Yeah, that's pretty extreme. I may also try it at some low point in my life ;)
