The Food Farm: an idea for my next run!

So, after a farm specialised in mayo, one in wine and alcohol, one in pots-inside-shed, I'm looking for a new theme.
I was thinking about a sweet farm: except for the things to send for the "100% expedition", making money only with jam, cakes and other sweet foods.
Or maybe a "only food".

What do you think about?

I think the “only food” sounds fun! Would that mean not being able to sell eggs, milk, truffles, or crops because they can be turned into meals or artisan goods?

Yes, from the Moment the farmer has got the kitchen, can only sell food. Before the kitchen, all the crops must become jam or pickling. Milk, cheese and eggs must be stored until they can be transformed in food.

I think your profit margins would be terrible, but it’s intriguing. Have you looked into how much cooked food sells for vs selling the individual ingredients? I bet it would be really satisfying once you were able to start selling you food. And the “cook every dish” achievement would be a breeze.

Someone listed a 'restaurant' challenge run that included the "cook every dish" achievement within a set period of time awhile back. And making the farmhouse look like a restaurant. I remember they spent a considerable about of time coming up with lists of the necessary ingredients. This challenge could be similarly difficult - how many tomatoes do you put in Eggplant Parm vs Spaghetti? Beets cooked or turned into sugar for other recipes. Lots of possible permutations!

It does sound like fun! The profit margins on Jam / Pickles vs cooked dishes is not really comparable though. As an example you can use a Pumpkin And Milk and sell it for 300 or Pickle the Pumpkin alone for 966 with Artisan. If I were doing a run like that it would rapidly turn into a Preserves Jar only run after a bit of dabbling, hopefully you have better self control than I do. Only cooked dishes after you get the kitchen means you MUST get the Kitchen ASAP and you can not make any more jam and pickles after it's built? Or were you leaning in a different direction? Also, what about Field Snacks? Do they count as food or since they're created in the Crafting menu do they not? Same with Bug Steaks and Oil of Garlic I suppose.

Either way, sounds intriguing, let us know how it goes for you!

I've done the legwork on this but lost my excel sheet. Long story short, there's only a small percentage of foods that can be cooked for a profit over their natural forms. Pretty sure preserved/kegged foods always sell better.

That being said, this is going to get complicated once you start to factor in quality for ingredients, especially with certain foods that can have multiple ingredients with quality stars. Fortunately, there is already a page on the wiki regarding this and sashimi, but for things like Fruit Salad etc, figuring that out will be harder. Btw, I don't think fruit salad is worth the price to sell it, if i remember correctly. Fish Tacos I think were one of the best ones.

All this being said that's calculating profitability based on selling the cooked goods vs selling the ingredients right? As are the Wiki's profitability calculations. If selling the base goods isn't an option, I would expect a significant number of recipes can at least be sold for a profit vs the cost of obtaining them. For example that Pumpkin Soup selling for 300 is obtained at a "cost" of 50 (hay for a day for Milk) + 100 (Pumpkin Seed), so you "profit" 150 from its sale. Just selling a normal quality pumpkin would net you a profit of 170+, but if that's off the table 150 is at least still a profit right?

I like the idea of arrange the home to make it like a restaurant, I think I'll do it!
The first year I'll run like other runs, but when I'll have the pots and the delux retained soil recipe, I'll fullfill some sheds with tomatoes, eggplants, cranberries, hot pepper plants, plus I'll grow on the island and in the farm a lot of beets (for the sugar) and will have a ton of chikens and cows.
It will be long, expecially gain the 10 million for the golden clock, but I'll try.
In the past runs I married Shane, Alex, Sam, Penny and Leah. Who could marry now? Maybe Harvey?
At the moment, I'll collect a lot of wood, stone, fiber, refined quartz, and tryin to maximize y levels.

It’s too bad you can’t marry Gus. I’d go with someone outgoing. Emily is used to working at the saloon, so She’s a solid choice. Harvey does have a lot of fans, but I found marriage to him to be uninspiring. He’s sweet, don’t get me wrong, just a little boring. But, to each their own.

I don't like a lot Emily, to be honest. I found her nice as friend, but she doesn't give me the "right vibration".

cofee is nice and I had some in greenhouse, but require A LOT of work. Plus, I have few kegs.

Now I have a big shed full of pots and cranberries seeds. I'll try to obtain the delux retired soil recipe as soon as I'll arrive on ginger island.
I bought a red cabbage seed at travelling cart the 22 of spring, 2nd year, and I'm growing it in a pot near the bed - I'll arrive to the island before 10th summer.
In the meanwhile, I'm building the shed for tomatoes and the shed for eggplant - eggplant parmesan is a good food to sell and to go the the skull cavern.
I'll plant a ton of beets for the sugar, in autumn - or maybe I'll use ginger island. Wheat and beets are very important for my run.
I will need A LOT of pots, because another shed I want to build will be fullfill with green beans.
I have a shed full of kegs for the ancient wine and I will have one full of jars for jelly and pickles, too. I know, it's a big project, but I want to have a shed full of every permenent colture - and the machines to transform some of them.
