Living off the land

I'm a scatterbrain and always want to start a new game, in any game, because the start is fun. So I will challenge myself here and only being able to plant free seeds: mixed seed, stuff from CC and the Museum. I'm not buying one thing from those greedy traders Pierre and Joja Mart! Because I'm greedier.

My name is Scrooge and my Farm is Miser Farm, on a forest farm. Enough farms there.
I need to find mixed seeds badly, had a little run with this and only got 13 by day 5. Not looking good, I need better in the next run. And I do not sell clay, wood, stone and other building materials, because I somehow know I need it all later. :)

I plant the free parsnips to get farming level up, but a damn crow ate 2 of them. Not sure if that is enough for next level farming. Put down the first batch of wild seeds, they will be vital in this game. I only plan to have no more than 50 plots of forage on my farm. I need farming level up for basic fertilzer for the mixed seeds or maybe I should plant them right away and cross my fingers to fill the CC?

And THEN fertilize the 30 spring seeds from the bundle.?

I can only fish in the places until I can fill the bundles, everything I put in a chest to sell when I'm level 5, because I want profit. I can only fish for 3 hours a day, except when it comes to crazy fish like catfish and later sturgeon. This with the basic rod.

No Willy, I'm not buying that silly stick you call a Training Rod. Greedy people everywhere!

I can sell all vegetables, but saving the ones for the bundles and one for Pam's birthday.
Talking birthdays, I can only gift people on their birthday! No more.

I can only make wild seeds of normal stuff, quality stuff goes in the shipping bin.
Same with spring onion, keep the plain ones for food, sell star one.
Forage the beach as often I can and sell excess.

I could spam a book here, but you guys know the idea, so I would like some input if there is anything I should change?

I know some bundles could be very hard to sort out, but I give it a go. If respawning forage on the map is as I understand, if I clear the map on every (Sunday?) I would get it all.

Some advice would be appreciated, I never tried this one before, but it was a fun run for 5 in game days. :)

Well, 13 parsnips will not get you farming 1. 15 parsnips is the minimum.

Thing is... a crow shouldn't have got your parsnips if that's all you planted.

You can't finish all bundles on mixed seeds because they don't grow into all plants (e.g. you can't get green beans from them).

If you only clear the map of forage once per week, do it Saturday. It resets Saturday night. Note there is a limit of how many things can spawn in an area, so going twice a week might be worth it.

I did a similar challenge run, you can have a look through to see any problems I encountered.

Crow appeared on day 3 and 4, never seen a crow twice.

I'm sure in my real game (as in my real proper game), I got one green bean from mixed seeds.
But then I had like 22 of those seeds.

I will look into your thread Ereo, in day time lol.

Actually, 13 will do. :)

This means that you can plant 13 out of the 15 Parsnips, 1 Green Bean, and 1 Cauliflower on Day 1 and still get Farming Level 1 (unlocking the Scarecrow recipe) by Day 5. The Potato can come once you've harvested the Parsnips, and so you can have all four ready to finish the Spring Crops Bundle on the night of the Egg Festival. This gets you 30 Speed-Gro which you can apply to Strawberries to sneak in an extra harvest.

It feels so perfect that even though it's probably not the "best" strategy, in my opinion it is the most satisfying to complete.

And @Bluto Longneck, when I saw the thread title, I thought of the in-game TV show. Maybe you could add "(Challenge Run)" to it so that it's less confusing?

I tried a similar run very recently but got impatient pretty fast - planting mixed seeds only means your Farming skill is GLACIALLY slow to level. That means no access to jars and kegs, but more importantly - no seed maker, and no auto-grabber either, for a VERY long time.

I hink I'll change it up to "you can buy 100 seeds per season, total", at least for the first year.

Really? I confess I did not do the math and had always assumed. My bad.

And yes, I too thought this was about the in-game TV show too when I first clicked to read the thread.
