Solved crashing save file

hi there! I'm having an issue where my Stardew save won't load, I have tried every solution I have found on the internet to the best of my ability, but I must be missing something. if you have any ideas on what can help me out, please let me know!

Platform: macOS Monterey 12.2
Game version: 1.5.6
Steps to reproduce:
  1. Open Stardew via Steam
  2. Click 'Load' on home screen
  3. Select the save file (El from Degrassi farm)
  4. Screen goes black, "Loading" appears in bottom left corner
  5. Game session ends, bringing me back to Steam
I have a funny feeling this has to do with old mods on my computer, but I'm clueless about all this and can't figure it out!

EDIT: not sure if this is important but this is mine + my friend's co-op farm. I host the farm for us so the save file is on my computer

Hey, thanks for the info & savefile.

I took a look, and while it was modded. This is a brand new save; that hasn't been played on yet.
I still cleaned it up; so it's playable in vanilla. And, so you can see what I mean.

But, did you have a similarly named savefile that you got mixed up with? Since you mentioned you have a co-op farm with your friend.

omg! I feel so silly. all my save files are named the same thing (my name) and I have two farms with the same name too! I pulled these from my saves folder, I think one of them might be the file in question?

if neither of these are the co-op farm save file, I have no idea where it is - I have the option to select it in the LOAD menu, but I am not 100% where that specific save file is. is there a chance the file could be missing BUT it would still show in my load menu screen? thanks for the help so far!

Hehe, no worries. ^-^ And, thanks for the new saves.
It looks like the "El_247701654" is the co-op farm. It's year 3, & seems to have a farmhand & all that.

I removed the modded NPCs that were causing the crash on load. And, then I saw some JsonAsset item data amongst the save files; so I searched the save.
Luckily, I only had to clear out one modded fish that would've caused a crash.
Oh, and deleted 2 modded mail messages.

So, I think I got everything, but let me know if you come across any other issues.
I've attached the fixed save below.

thank you so much Mystic! I just replaced it with the one you've sent, but the game still won't open here. still the same issue persists - loading screen appears bottom right, but after several seconds it crashes. I have faith that you've fixed the save file, but is there any reason my game still won't run? appreciate it! I'm clueless :P

EDIT: bottom LEFT corner is where the Loading message appears.

No prob! ^-^

So, I'd make a backup of the "Saves" folder; the one that holds all your farms. And, place the backup somewhere like on your desktop.
Then delete all the farms in the Saves folder. And, extract my fixed version into the Save folder so it's the only one there.

If you had another copy of the save. Even if you renamed the name of the folder. The files inside would still clash. That could be one reason for the crash.

If the above doesn't work; then next to the save folder is the "ErrorLogs" folder. Try to find the most recent log, and post it here.

ok lol I've made a backup of my save files, it's on my desktop. I moved the saves to trash, then added your fixed save file to the Saves folder. upon booting up my game, I see all my saves in the Load menu (despite there only being ONE in the Saves folder). upon opening the co-op farm in question, I still get the crash.

I also cannot find an ErrorLogs folder. via steam, I can "browse local files", which brings me here:
Stardew Valley > Contents > MacOS (I have attached what I can see in this folder)

^ I have a feeling that something in these folders isn't right LOL.

Ah okay... that looks like you're still running SMAPI perhaps? SMAPI has a mod that makes its own backups; delete those.

The Save folder I was talking about was here: https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Saves#Mac
The error log folder is next to this save folder.

----
As for the error that pops up. I'm not too sure. But, definitely check out the proper location for saves; after deleting the SMAPI backups. Taking care of that first should fix the main issue of the save not loading.
