Hi.

I was wondering if anyone could help me? My daughter borrowed her friends PS4 disc of Stardew valley to play on my ps5 just before Christmas. She absolutely loves it and plays it all the time! Because her friend now wants the disc back I decided to buy my daughter her own copy from the PS Store as a digital download, which I did. However, when my daughter plays the game and tries to load her progress, it says there is no saved games available! She is absolutely gutted having spent over a month playing it.
Could anyone help me to fix this this? The game saves are on the console because I just downloaded the data from the cloud but it still doesn’t show up within the game. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Likely she was playing under a different user profile. I presume she has a kids account but the game was purchased under yours, right? Try launching it under all the user profiles present, then if you still can't find it, go to "storage" and see if there are two entries for Stardew Valley. PS may consider it two different games and thus be segregating the save data.

Thanks for replying so quickly!
I did think it might be down to the account she played on so I tried both hers, and mine but still nothing was showing. You might be right about the two entries part though because on the ps5 Home Screen, both the disc version and the digital version are showing. So you think if I delete the disc version it might find the saved data on the digital version?

No, I suspect it is reading the PS4 disc version as a "PS4 game" and treating its save data as a discrete thing from the digital "PS5 game", unfortunately. There's no way to force the PS to accept different save data than what it believes to be correct without doing some Very techy things, steps detailed below in case you have some technical chops. If those instructions don't make perfect sense at first glance, and you don't follow conceptually what I'm going for, I wouldn't worry about it. My actual recommendation, as much as it stinks to purchase the game twice, is to buy the PS4 disc version from somewhere, it's only $20, and then the PS will read it as the same game, and the save data should be accessible.

Whatever you do, don't delete the disc version, as the PS is likely to kill the save data at the same time. Best of luck!

(The way I'd do it if I were trying to "migrate" the save would be: creating a new farm with the same name as what was on the disc version, transferring the save data for both games to USB, connecting to a PC and using a PS storage reading software to access the atypically formatted contents, sub out the save file for the "PS5 version" with the PS4 version, hope they're fully compatible, transfer back to the PS, load, and voila)
