First enchantment ever - what determines it?

I've been reading up on enchantments, preparing to get Defense Infinity Blade enchanted. The guides say enchantments are selected based on previous 3 enchantments.

So what determines the very first enchantment ever? Pure luck?

If so, that's probably my only chance of reloading the game until I get the enchantment I want, right?

(I would like Crusader on my sword and, if still doable, the Mastery on my rod. Reaching on my hoe/can are probably out of the question as I only have 6 shards, not enough to reroll over and over).

Enchants are seeded - If you restart the day and enchant the same tools in the same order you will get the same results.

Unfortunately reloading doesn't change what you get, it's determined from the start based on your game seed number.

However, note that your first enchant on a different tool, like your fishing rod or hoe, could possibly be what you want. And it changes over the total number of enchants you've done on all tools, so if you enchant something else and then enchant your sword it might be something you want more. If you're on PC and don't mind checking predictors, you can look up what you're going to get on Stardew Predictor and pick the best thing to enchant each time. If not, you could reload and retry to test out what enchanting each tool gives you. Unfortunately you most likely can't get everything you want in 6 shards, though.

EDIT: Although note that Stardew Predictor hasn't yet been updated to fully take into account the way the last two enchants are ruled out of the possibilities, so it may not be accurate if you're enchanting something multiple times.
Also, because, as @BlaDe said, the last two enchants are ruled out of the possibilities, you might get something different if, say, you enchant your sword three times versus enchanting two other things and then your sword. Maybe just play around with different orders and see what you get?

I thought the Predictor was updated. It shows which two are a possibility, and you just rule out whichever one was in the last two tries (because it can't/shouldn't be both).

So I’m curious, if I enchant multiple weapons would the enchantments occur in the same order once I cycle through all the possibilities? For example, when I wanted the crusader enchantment on my sword I got vampiric then went through all the other options before I got it. A season later, when I wanted the vampiric enchantment for my hammer, it was the first one that popped up.

I think I've seen some cases when that's not correct, but @BlaDe would know more. In any case the note on that section of the predictor still says it's not updated. *shrug*

No, I'm pretty sure that any enchantment, on any weapon or tool, is based on the total number of enchants on anything. So after two enchants on your sword, it would go to enchant #3 on the list for your hammer, or if you'd enchanted, say, your hoe as well, it would then be enchant #4.

Regarding why you got vampiric first on your hammer - the first possible enchant, the one you get if nothing has been ruled out by previous enchants, tends to repeat the same two enchants over and over for a while. E.g. the first possible enchant on a weapon on my main farm, according to the predictor, would be Artful, then Crusader, then Artful, then Crusader, and so on for several enchants before it switches to Bug Killer and Crusader, then Bug Killer and Haymaker... So my guess is you were still within a section where you had a 50-50 chance of Vampire as your first enchant, and nothing was ruled out on the hammer yet.
Either that or it's just a coincidence, I guess.

I will, thank you!

I loaded up the Predictor and strangely, it shows I have already enchanted something 3 times. I most definitely have not - unless crafting the Galaxy Weapon counts as enchanting? Then I should have done things quite differently, or go and buy more Galaxy Souls from Blue Boy...

ETA: The Predictor worked! I got the sword, hoe, rod, and can enchanted how I wanted. I'm now at the "Crusader" spot again and will save that up for the gavel (and my last prismatic shard, too)
