both mermaid quests

Am I the only one that can't get either one of the mermaid quests to work? I do exactly as I'm supposed to at the night market, nothing. Same for the one on ginger island. Which means I can kiss perfection goodbye. ...even though I'm so close now after 11 years of gameplay.

Let's be honest, what you get from the Night Market mermaid show is not necessary. It's one free pearl. You'll get more/others.

The Ginger Island mermaid, however, is good for 5 golden walnuts and you do need to collect all of those for perfection. Have you followed all the different workarounds/advice folks have given in the "ginger island mermaid" threads to come before? Some folks have apparently needed to tune the blocks 1 extra or 1 fewer times each.

I've tried everything like five times. It's so frustrating. One time I got it to start to work, she started to dance. But then no golden walnut. I guess I'll just have to persevere and try try again. And again. ....and again.

Which system so you play? Do you have access to the save file?

Because if she started the dance, it might be that the game considers it done, and I don't think it will repeat...

But if I do it right with the mermaid on Ginger Island, doesn't she immediately give me some golden walnuts? That never happened. Right now my golden walnut count is 118/130. I haven't completed the Simon Says thing either.

I play through Steam on a pc. And I don't know if I have access to the save file. I'll have to figure that one out.

Use an upgraded water can, hold it down so that you will water him and for some reason it just works

Thanks for that tip Tekalh. I've never upgraded my can since I started using sprinklers. So I never felt the need. I guess I Have a need now. :)

You can also block the holes with crafted flooring. Or there are other things that work, I'm pretty sure, but that's what I used.

You can run Stardew Checkup to find out if your save file considers the mermaid walnuts to have been obtained or not. And what the other walnuts you're missing are, for that matter.

In case it helps, the (relatively minor) issue I had with the mermaid was that I initially put the blocks above the markings on the beach. That's too far inland for her to hear, so I had to redo it below the markings instead.

Just a copper can is sufficient for the mole. You'll want at least steel to explore the volcano most efficiently, though.

Thank you very much for the detailed instructions on how to access my saved files!! It says that I still need to complete Island Cove Mermaid Puzzle for 5 walnuts. I will try again, and make sure to do as you suggested with the placement of the flute blocks.
