A horse, yeah or neigh?

On my fourth play through I finally had Robin build me a horse stall. My horse is great! ....I named her Butterscotch. I love riding her around town and through the valley. Although there are a few places she won't go, which kinda cancels out the shortcut improvement I have. My problem is I love riding around on my horse too much. I've noticed I'm much less productive. i.e. riding past lots of forageable items, berries when in season and not having dialogue with NPC's. I know with the update I can stay on my horse and chat, which is great, but I don't. And I'd just like to point out for any future updates, I could feasibly reach town and pick a berry or two off a bush while still riding my horse.

I have never gotten the horse, but thinking about it when I start my next game. Sometimes I think I spend too much time trying to be productive instead of just having fun. I haven't really fished much at all since I got the master fishing achievement, but it's part of the game i really enjoy doing.

Get it. The horse makes you more productive because you can get to things faster. It's like free coffee while you're on the horse... and then you can suck down a coffee and eat a spicy eel and have +2 speed on top of being on the horse and really cruise. You'll be going so fast folks will think your horse needs to be checked for doping!

Seriously, the first thing I spend hardwood on is getting me a horse.

If you find the horse is making you less productive, as @PookieDoodle was talking about, it's because now that you're on the horse, you feel like you're on task going somewhere... like in a car, you don't stop on the side of the road to pick a dandelion often... or you could. That's more a psychology thing than an actual thing. The tool is there... but how you react to the tool is on you. 😉

I didn't get a Horse on my first playthough and my main annoyance with the game was how l-o-o-n-----g it took to get anywhere. And I also didn't know about Coffee and Spicy Eel. Get as many of those 3 things you can and your day is about 3-4 hours longer. Best buff in early game.

Because you don't get to see Elliot in his swimsuit until much later.

It's imNVs, not imVNs. If you read out my name, letter by letter, in English and without typos, there's a hidden message that should help you remember. 😉

*swoon*

In one of my saves, I married Elliot and (because I always choose the same gender as the person I intend to marry in each save) we adopted two beautiful, bouncing babbies. Our son loves his tiara, and our daughter ran around pretending she was a dinosaur.

Where's the bloody facepalm emoji? I specifically say your name in my head as 'I am envious' thanks to the thread you created a few months back but of course my typing is atrocious and that's not a spellchecked word. I do proofread but yeah, that has it's own flaws. Clearly, LOL!

hmmm, whatever, lol.

Pretty much this. If "being productive" and "having fun" aren't them same thing, then maybe you should take a slight step back and re-think what you're doing for a sec. If picking forageables everywhere is your idea of fun, then perhaps you should forego the horse every so often to nab whichever ones you want. Also, everyone has a different idea of what "productive" actually is. For some it's getting all the forageables, for others it's getting from point A to point B as fast as inhumanly possible so they can do stuff at point C, because point D needs stuff that's at point E (alternatively speaking, being productive for some is doing all the things as fast as possible min-max style. Unfortunately there are people that think like that and apply it irl, and in doing so miss out on all the "forageables" and talking to all the townsfolk, if you catch my drift).

If I had to pick what my least favorite part about SDV is, I would immediately say the achievements. At least they're not as oppressively hard (at least they weren't until the island came around) as some other mainstream games, but they are a bit hand-holdy in telling players what to do, and even the Community Center is like this as well. Some people might be like "oh, well that's a good thing", and my response would be "well, yes and no". On one hand it gives the players direction, but on the other hand, sandbox games were made for you to do whatever you feel like doing, and the achievement and sandbox aspects of the game are in direct contention with each other on that point, especially when it comes to the Community Center. That being said, I'm not advocating the Joja route or anything, because nobody actually wants a vending machine in their house.

...There's such a thing as riding your horse too much?
Depends, do you think people drive their cars too much? :P

Agree, horse riding in SDV on a PS4 is nothing short of therapeutic. That and fishing.

Since I've gotten the horse I've started giving myself days off in the game. lol When I'm caught up on farm chores I take off on my horse and just ride around. I think it's the point of the horse. Stopping to smell the roses or Fairy roses as it where. Today I saw Krobus run behind a tree above Jodi's house. Something I probably wouldn't of seen if I was stressing about kegging ancient fruit. I've never been one of those players who has to get things done. But I admit, sometimes I get caught up in making money. Then I see my super awesome horse standing in her stall and just take off.
