What do you keep in your fridge?

So I've finally expanded my house for the first time and have the kitchen now, yay! First thoughts was to put everything in the fridge but it won't all fit - I try to keep 3 of standard and silver star items, and 5 gold. So I started putting just the standard stuff in but I'm unsure if I'd be better to put the gold star stuff in as I can see it links to the cooker to make food, is it worth using gold star stuff for that? Also which items are relevant in cooking and which aren't please, is there a guide to this? As I can see algae is edible but not sure if it actually fits into any recipes, as an example? I did see a second fridge for sale somewhere but even so would still be helpful to know what should/shouldn't be kept in there? Please and thank you!

You can buy more fridges from Robin. I keep 7 total in my kitchen to fit everything.

Edit to add:
Fridge 1 & 2 - Vegetables
Fridge 3 - Flowers (poppies & blue jazz)
Fridge 4 - Fruit
Fridge 5 - Dairy, eggs, other cooking ingredients (vinegar, rice, flour, sugar, oil, etc)
Fridge 6 - Fish and squid ink
Fridge 7 - Forageables

And this only includes such that are good for cooking. If they aren't used in cooking, they are not in fridges.

I just keep the stuff I plan to use for cooking in my fridge (which is pretty little since I don't cook much). I suggest keeping some milk and eggs, some of the cooking ingredients you can buy from Pierre (vinegar, sugar, flour, rice, oil), and anything that's used for any recipes you make often. As you noted, when you cook it can take stuff from the fridge, so don't keep anything in there that you don't want to accidentally cook.

There's no advantage to cooking with gold-quality ingredients, normal quality is fine.

There's a full list of all the recipes in the Cooking page on the wiki.

I have 7 kitchen fridges, and 1 Workbench fridge.

Kitchen fridges are:
- Forageables (non-fruit, non-flower)
- Animal Products
- Fish & Roe
- Veggies (Spring & Summer)
- Veggies (Fall) and "Starter" foods (omelete, bread, tortillas, flour, rice, oil, etc.)
- Fruits (Forageable)
- Fruits (Crops, Minus Starfuit & Ancient Fruit)

Workbench fridge is anything with dual purpose like Seaweed, Algaes, Clams, Maple syrup, honey, etc. Plus poppies and Blue Jazz.

As to "is it worth cooking with gold quality". Maybe.
Some foods provide buffs, if you need the buffs then it is useful. Also as you increase in level or use fertilizer you'll get more gold quality items. Sometimes that is all you have.

I put every crop in my fridges, I usually just have 2 (the one the upgrade comes with, and then a mini fridge i put in the spouse's room) and it's true i don't have everything usually, i end up filtering some stuff out (like diff quality crops etc) so it's nothing that bothers me too much!

i have a chest for cooked food and other gifts for villagers hahaha

Stuff I have found in my fridge:

* Galaxy Sword, after going to the Desert in order to do a Skull Cavern run and found it missing.
* Watering Can, after going to the Volcano. BTW I needed the wiki to figure out that game mechanic. Me dum.
* Bombs, when your pockets are full and Abby gives you a morning gift, you gotta make use of your local storage resources.
* Angler Fish and Mutant Carp, valuable fish should be kept cool in the fridge, right? Yeah, not in THIS game. There are those here who know of this particular danger. Luckily I was not wooing Sebby at this time and realized the danger before disaster struck.
* Wood. Yeah. I got nothin'. Why TH was wood in there?

In my fridge i usually store food i cook, receive from other town residents, or even buy from the stardrop saloon. my fridge recently overfilled with so much food so i had to buy more! i also have some in my basement and i store excess stone, wood, clay, green/white algae, and etc..

Does food in this game ever go bad? Anyway, I have many fridge besides the main one.
  • One for food
  • One for artisan goods
  • Another one for my barn and coop animals' produce
  • Two for my farm harvest, one for each vegetable and fruit produce
  • The other two are for fishes and foraged fruits and wild items

I don't keep anything in my fridge I don't want to cook with. Usually that means normal quality only, until I get to the point that I've worked through all that stuff and my mad farmr skillz mean that I only have silver and up. But I do only have the one main fridge and then one small one--that holds pretty much everything I might want to cook with. I have a special fish chest in my kitchen where I keep the specific fish I might want to cook, but that prevents me from accidentally turning the wrong fish into sushi.

THIS!

I will add on to say that I mostly put in gold star food items and those that will be going to the community center. I guess you could say I'm roleplaying my farmer a bit and thinking, "Let's store these "golden" pumpkins in the fridge so they keep until I make it over to the Community Center." 🤣
