Betrayed... [1.5 Spoiler]

I did the crop delivery quest for Pierre and I feel betrayed. I've been seeing all the talk about how he's one of the worst villagers and it made me nervous to find out why. I haven't done his events yet cause I'm working in chunks. But anyway, seeing how he gouges prices of crops I GREW ON MY FARM, and then acting like he's somehow owed business for it, is a little infuriating lol.

I used to like Pierre and I felt bad for him cause to me, it was a small business vs a corporation and just like irl, I'll always choose a small business first. In fact, my morals are so strong, I knowingly wasted more money buying his supplies so I could keep a clear conscience. But now I'm almost regretting banishing Joja. At least they don't pretend to be high and mighty like Pierre does. They know what they are! AND I coulda had an auto petter by now, but noooOoOOoo, I wanted to support the tiny community and make my life harder, for some jerk to try and sway people into over paying for MY hard work! Psh.

So yeah, I don't like Pierre.

On another topic, I'm starting to get a lil suspicious of Abigail and Sebastian. =_= I like guys and girls al the same but Abigail, if you are sneaking out with my Sebby, like I said in another post, WE WILL MOVE OVER TO GRAVEYARD KEEPER. *snort*

^ Yeah, that was one of my complaints over at the 'least favorite NPC' thread. I don't like him gouging prices for my stuff, but understand that it's a RL thing too -- the business that sells it has to turn a profit after they spend money buying it from you, so the in-store price will go up to reflect that. That I can handle. What I can't handle is that Pierre flat-out lies and takes the credit for growing my produce. I hate running into random NPCs in town that rave about how good 'Pierre's' vegetables are and tease me that I better watch out for competition. It's so slimy and insecure.

I've never had an NPC mention my crops in a good way, but once I talked to Shane about the sap he bought and then complained about the quality. First of all it's sap. What was Shane expecting??? Second of all, of course Pierre only gives credit for the bad stuff.

If it helps, Pierre's stuff is actually cheaper than Joja unless you get a membership, in which case the prices are equal. Joja does have the advantage of being open more. No, this does not make any sense story-wise.

That being said, I 100% agree that Pierre sucks.

Penny will say some nice things about produce she buys from Pierre's (produced by you, of course) and I think I've seen other compliments but most of the time it's about how awful one of my Parsnips or Pumpkins were. Well if Pierre didn't keep it on the self for 2 seasons, then maybe it might have tasted just a wee bit fresher.

It makes giving him the smackdown in the Grange Display, even in Year 1, all the sweeter. That you also get to trivialize Marnie's giant cheesewheel is just the icing on the cake. Though I feel a little bad for Willy's fish selection.

Not bad enough not to fish him under the ice a month later, though.

Yep, sure, Mr. "doesn't do anything to maintain the town's community center despite having enough $$$ to make a gold statue of himself", definitely like him way more. Not!
Hey now, he makes a salary. What he does with HIS money is HIS business. What do you expect him to do? And look at what it takes to repair the CC. Just the vault takes over 40k in gold coins. 40k in doubloons would make a pretty good sized statue, don't you think? And then there's 5 other parts of the CC, and the Junimos have taken over. I think this isn't a money issue, as evidenced by the fact that you bribe the Junimos with a fine sampling of everything the valley has to offer in order to repair the place.

I'll be honest with you guys, this is the reason I only directly sell gold and silver level produce to Pierre. I keep the regular stuff for my cooking.

Is that what makes the difference in the Villagers' produce opinions? The quality of what you sell to ol' Pierre? I really need to try this out as I don't pay attention to what I sell, I usually just Keg/Preserves or sell the lot.

More subtlety I need to remember in-game. Maybe if I drill a hole in my head and drain some stuff out, I'll find more room for these strategies. Of course then I'll forget important things like the name of the person who Mary Decker lost the Gold medal to in the '84 Olympics when she was tripped.

Choices.

Yep! It does. If you're selling gold and silver quality, those comments will always be complimentary. If you're selling items that can't be made gold and silver level (like caviar and fish roe), the darn villagers will still make nasty comments about the stuff. Which, again, is why I have Louis ship all my artisan goods out, for the most part, though I'll sell Pierre my iridium wine, beer, goat cheese, etc.

Yeah it's nice flavor but the implementation is a bit off. I know I'd make a few changes to it if i had some say in the matter but it's not really relevant as it's fine as it is.

The only critically important thing I would change would be the ability to sell saps (syrup, tar, resin) to Pierre. I find it silly that he won't buy them yet he buys SAP of all things, and by the bucketload at that. Probably enough to fill Lewis' tub.

If you want to be able to like Pierre even just a tiny bit more again, and have never chosen the "fight" option when completing the community centre, I recommend doing that at least once. He feels a lot less two-faced that way and you make him put his money where his mouth is and earn his keep. I felt irresponsible considering that option the first few times, but now I pick it every single time.

The fighting opition is what made me LOVE Pierre

My dislike of Pierre aside, the "fight" option is wonderful and hilarious.
