Mushroom glitch?

Hihello, friendly neighborhood Scythe wielder! I don't know how to add the Switch icon to my post.. Sorryy.

So I grew a couple mushy trees, and after a few days one of them appears to have turned into a stone tower looking thing.... I can't remove it with a pickaxe or any tool. Super weird. Anyone have theories or info? Thanks :D *slash*

PS: Indicated by the red half circle and arrow thingies. I hope I'm not being a dummy and just forgot I put some sorta furniture there... but I'm pretty sure it was once my 2nd Mush tree xD

You can remove it with an axe, but I would not recommend it. As LRangerR said, that's just how they look during winter.
Oh! I wondered if that was the case, since the other tree was fine. Thank you!

That's just how mature mushroom trees look in winter. Come spring time it will return to normal, so don't chop it down, lol.
And thank you! Nice seeing you here :D

I've only got like 170 hrs in the game so there's still plenty for me to learn.

Yeah, it’s a mushroom stump. Also, the reason you couldn’t add a switch icon to your post is because you’re not in the “Bugs” part of the forum. Here’s the link to it for further reference: https://forums.stardewvalley.net/forums/help-bug-reports.12/
Thank you!!

Yup it is a mushroom stump that will grow back in spring. If you tap your mushroom trees the tapper will stay on the stump over the winter too.
Is there any benefit to tapping mushroom trees? :o

The way they produce mushrooms is fairly complicated though, I can pull up the wiki if you want, but it has something to do with whatever the tapper produced last, and what day of the week it is or something like that. I don't remember clearly.

Also, you're welcome.

Since I never need common mushrooms, I only harvest on the days where I know I will get a red or purple next.

In spring and summer, if you harvest on the 10th or 20th, 2 days later when the tapper is ready again, it will be a purple mushroom. (In the fall it is 1 day later.) When you harvest a purple mushroom, the next time the tapper is ready it will be a red mushroom. When you harvest a red mushroom, the next time it will be common... unless you are harvesting from the tapper on the 10th or 20th, because then it will be purple again the next time.

Sure, it means leaving red mushrooms sitting in the tapper for over a week every time, but it keeps the clutter down.

As Iridium Quality mentioned, we only have platform labels for the Multiplayer (LFG) and Help & Bug Reports sections where it is especially relevant. Since the game is mostly the same on all platforms (at least once mobile gets 1.5), it's not as important to make a distinction when discussing gameplay.

If you get a mushroom tree... it can spread, just like any other tree. You can eventually get (as I was, with 20 trees) 40 purple mushrooms per season except winter, for 120 purple mushrooms per year. You'll be lucky to get over 2 per season from the cave, and 10 per year? No way.
