Sound Effects Appreciation Thread

I've been thinking about this for a long time and finally decided to bite the bullet and post!

SDV gets so much deserved appreciation and kudos for its music. We've all got that favorite seasonal song and character theme. So much effort has gone into every inch of this game's sound design, but the sound effects themselves sometimes get overlooked because they're A) overshadowed by the music we're jamming to or B) so successfully seamless that we don't even notice them as we play.

Does anyone have a favorite sound effect in the game? Something that hits your ear just right, or is especially cute or heartwarming to you, or is just overall a treat to hear day after day?

Post your favorites!!!

My top favorites:

- the sound truffles make when you put them in the oil maker, omg
- the Jumino peeps
- the tumble-hiss of the geodes entering the geode crusher
- that ultra-satisfying thunk items make when you put them in the shipping bin
- the sound the claw machine makes when you successfully drop something into the chute

my favorites are definitely the pop sound when you harvest from multiple-yield crops (like cranberries) and that thicc furnace sound when you put something in the furnace
Oh man, I can't believe I forgot the furnace sound. The sheer satisfaction of going down a line of furnaces and loading them up with that click+thunk+woosh. 😍

I particularly like the "Brtt brtt!" when there is a bite on your line and the "Shuff shuff shuff" when a ladder opens in the mines.
YES AGREE, also lol it is legit such a fun experience to see how people phonetically spell out these sounds.

Is this like a SDV ASMR thread? lol

I tend to like a lot of the animal sounds. The sheep are especially cute.
lol I MEAN KIND OF, but I do feel sound engineering in general is underappreciated in video games. You usually only notice it when it's bad and just take it for granted when it's good. Considering how much work goes into getting those sounds right, I like to show appreciation for those efforts when I can. I wanted to give everyone else the opportunity to chime in too!

And yes the sheep sounds are so cute. <3

The Ducks plonking into the water works for me. Git outta my way ya feathery varmints, I'm tryina get to Marnie's for the 38 minutes she's available this week!

Lulz I haven't had Sheep since my first save, those useless bags of pillow stuffing only give Wool. I have Rabbits for that and those mutants drop more feet than a stumbling centipede.

The harvesting sound would be great, but really it's just a prison sentence as that means more Kegging and Preserving for me and Haley seems to draw the line at playing in the sprinklers and calling that "watering."

The New Day sound is a great one as it holds all the promise of Lazy Farming, yet frequently ends up as the insidious warning that...

I need to deal with those blasted Parrots again today.

I mean, it wouldn't be so bad if they didn't use the Parrot Express to try to drop me in that damned volcano with all the other monkeys. Have to keep constantly reminding them that that's not their job. All the things that happen between pickup and drop-off man...

I have avoided getting the Parrot Express so far and I'm kinda scared of it. The whole Parrot mechanism in general is not my favorite and weirdly strikes me as somewhat un-Stardew Valley. Which is really me being Sour Grapes as there are so many insane monsters in the game that semi-sentient Parrots with apparent thumbs and woodworking skills is really not that much of a stretch.

They probably learned the thumbs from those six-toed cats you see on the Internet.

Parrots are actually pretty dextrous with their feet, it's really fun to watch them play sometimes, but that's IRL, and I'm glad i'm not the only one that thinks the parrots mechanics don't feel like Stardew at it's core. Instead of going around gathering resources we have to....search for walnuts? Look parrots, i've repaired bridges before, all i need is about 300 wood, some bubblegum, and a few bobby pins. Failing that I know an excellent woodworker who would just love to come and fix that little problem for me. Idk, for most of the things the parrots do, they just feel very unnecessary, at least in Stardew anyways. Love parrots irl.

Also, I just don't see why they needed to beat up that poor turtle.

Ooh yes the cronch that only sounds accurate when the character has popped a raw egg in their mouth as a snack., we can't forget that!
I dine exclusively on pepper poppers in-game for the speed boost while I'm running around doing my chores, so the sound has now been weirdly entangled with my perception of IRL peppers. I bite into a RL pepper and find myself expecting it to make that tangy cronch sound.

Oh god, I have many favorite sound efforts but the top ones are

- The whale (?) sound when it's raining. It's so mysterious and fascinating
- The sound furnace makes when you put item into them
- The one when you enter/exit your house or farm buildings

I LOVE HEARING THAT NOISE, it starts off those rainy days so peacefully. It makes you want to stay in by the fire with your sewing machine.

The thunder and lightning mixed in the rain, sound so believable to me. I also vote for the furnace and the Whale/bullfrog.
