I am boycotting the desert traderUse the omni geodes for other things, like the desert trader.
Hmm, i see. Thanks. Does daily luck factor into that at all? Conclusion: go for the full rainbow trout pond, it's ten times more efficient.
With a daily chance of just 0.09%, you're likely still waiting an average of ten years for a shard from a trout pond, so don't hold your breath.Doing the maths for this using values from the wiki:
0.09% daily chance of having a prismatic shard from a rainbow trout pond
Having respectively 9%, 6%, 0.9% daily chance of getting 1, 3, 10 omnigeodes from a full octopus pond, this equals to a 2.43% daily mean chance of getting an omnigeode. As there is a 0.4% chance of having a prismatic shard from an cracked omnigeode, you have then an average 0.00972% daily chance of having a prismatic shard from a full octopus pond.
Conclusion: go for the full rainbow trout pond, it's ten times more efficient.
*gasp* Multiple trout ponds!!!!!!!With a daily chance of just 0.09%, you're likely still waiting an average of ten years for a shard from a trout pond, so don't hold your breath.
By far the best way of getting a shard is to make deep dives into skull cavern and break lots of iridium nodes. Nothing else comes close
You'll need an average of 1111 trout ponds to get a prismatic shard per day on average.*gasp* Multiple trout ponds!!!!!!!
I've simply answered the original question that was about the relative advantage of rainbow trout pond over octopus pond in the purpose of getting prismatic shard. I do agree that there are better ways of getting that specific item. With a daily chance of just 0.09%, you're likely still waiting an average of ten years for a shard from a trout pond, so don't hold your breath.

Well I don't have that much room, but two trout ponds is twice the chance of a shard? (Can someone good at math see what the chances of two shards on the same day are?)You'll need an average of 1111 trout ponds to get a prismatic shard per day on average.
.09%^2=.000081%, which will happen on average once about every 11022 years in game time.Well I don't have that much room, but two trout ponds is twice the chance of a shard? (Can someone good at math see what the chances of two shards on the same day are?)
The contents of geodes are set from the very start of the game, using the random seed. Daily luck doesn't increase the chance of getting a prismatic shard from an omnigeode.Hmm, i see. Thanks. Does daily luck factor into that at all?
Yeah but not everybody likes to grind the **** out of the SC. We're working with ponds here, can you please stay on topic kind sir. With a daily chance of just 0.09%, you're likely still waiting an average of ten years for a shard from a trout pond, so don't hold your breath.

I've barely set foot in the SC in this save. I've got a rainbow trout pond and an octopus pond sitting next to each other and the thought occurred to me, and i'm also being lazy at math rn.The main way to get omni geode is by mining in skull cavern, you'll be more likely to get prismatic from breaking iridium node. But yeah, just break them, I think it's more profitable to break the geodes rather than buying artifact troves (unless you're going to complete the library).
I'm surprised nobody's mentioned that before, honestly. I've thought of doing it but never actually done it because i don't actually care about prisms that much. Imo they're pretty overrated.Well I don't have that much room, but two trout ponds is twice the chance of a shard? (Can someone good at math see what the chances of two shards on the same day are?)
I don't cheat but thanks for the offer :PIf you want, you can use the Stardew Predictor to look up what you will get from your geodes.
That's funny, i usually get at least one prismatic from a omnigeode per save. And that's me not really trying to get them either, as in I've never purchased an omnigeode (except for that one time i accidentally clicked something on krobus).I got one prismatic shard from my trout pond in three years. I've never got one from an omni geode, even buying hundreds at a time. Luck only affects geodes by making it more likely you'll find them breaking rocks (as I understand).
