Does the update make the game better?

I'm looking forward to it but I haven't played it since I have a PS4 and a Nintendo Switch... I also have a laptop but for some reason I can't play video games on it with my cats sitting on the keyboard. Should I start over when the update comes out? Also when I finally get the guts to tell my cats not to get on my keyboard are there any really good mods that add extra places and also cheats like time stop?

There are lots of mods... I mean... damn. You're better off going to one of the mod sites and just browsing to see what you like. (I recommend not doing SVE for various reasons, but that's just me.)

As for starting over? I didn't. I mean, I kinda did... but I first explored all the new content with a well-established save where I had all the time in the world to explore that new content. Then I started a new farm to explore the new content that can only be found/experienced in a new save (because there is some).

I'm thinking about starting a beach farm. I know it will be harder with that one since I can't use sprinklers but I really want to use it because it looks nice plus I want to experience the boxes washing up.

If you like PS4/Switch version, and "for some reason" your keyboard become unusable, I can advise you to buy a controller and plug your computer on a TV :D
Well, as long as you're using the PC version (😉😘), I don't care what controller you use... but I'll say, though I've only ever used keyboard/mouse, that from my understanding, there's just some things easier to do with that setup, some things are easier to do with a controller. Me, I don't want to relearn how to play the game. I don't imagine many do (and I know folks that have switched platform and from controller to keyboard or vice-versa), and those that do tend to have difficulty at first, but then get the hang of the new interface/controls.

I've said this elsewhere, but I use controller or keyboard depending on my mood. Improvements have been made on the technical side of things to make controller life better, but there's still a few hiccups. Nothing that makes the game unplayable though. There's plenty of gamepads out there available for purchase, just gotta find one that suits you well, and it's very common for gamepad companies to emulate the style and design of the major console's controllers. Playstation style controllers are fairly popular, so it should be a smooth transition for you.

I hear you, I totally hear you.

Unfortunately nature has gifted me with a very small brain buffer (to match the small brain) and therefore I only have enough space to store a small number of KB actions before OUT OF MEMORY errors are thrown out. Those UI shortcuts that SDV uses where you can Tab btw the 3 lines in your backpack and then use the 1 thru = hotkeys to quickly get to something? That's like 3x the storage space and command queueing I can handle. Esc - click - Esc is all I can manage, and mouse wheel thru the visible row to the thing I need. Even then, it's Processor at 100%, downclock to 300 MHz!!

Another example: I have 920 hours in Rocket League and I can only use 6 keys: WASD, '(for dodge), / (for boost). Not even a Powerslide. When I try to bind a Powerslide key, my brain gets:

STACK OVERFLOW ERROR
STACK OVERFLOW ERROR
STACK OVERFLOW ERROR
STACK OVERFLOW ERROR
STACK OVERFLOW ERROR

Blue screen.

I switched from iOS (my phone, even an iPad) to PC. It was so difficult at first. I believe I had to restart level 11 of the mines 10 times before I reached floor 15. But I’m glad I did. I think the beach farm is worth it and the new content I’ve unlock is limited but worth it. Heck, I’d do it for the fish tanks and personal sewing machine alone. I still am slower doing things then I would be on my phone, except for fishing which I prefer on PC

I dont get your point...

Eemeena said that he/she used to play on console, so he/she already plays with controller... There is no relearn to do...

Anyway, it is still possible to use an external keyboard/mouse if needed to solve the original problem.

Keyboard/Controller are two options on PC, I tried both and made my choice but I dont assume it is a better choice for anyone else than me.

This is a bit off topic, but if someone's pronouns are unknown, I'd recommend using "they" as not everyone goes by he or she! Plus it's just easier to type and doesn't stand out quite as much when reading.
Yes, I know that they/them is the preferred option for this case, but I personally don't like it and refuse to use it for a single person because it doesn't translate properly in french (My native language). I prefer use 'ze' in the case the person tells me 'ze' dont want to be referred as "he" or "she", but I prefer he or she as default as long as there is only few people who dont like to be referred as one of those pronouns.
We can discuss it in private messages if you want :)

I like what you say since I do sometimes think of myself as genderless pronouns but because my mother chose me to be a female (I was born both... I wish that was in the game but it's rare.) I let people call me female so it'll be easier.

I wouldn’t say start over unless you really are unhappy with what you’ve done so far. You can always start another save if you wanna start over. It’s never perfect but alas is the way of the world. I personally say the 1.5 update is really great though.

There are actually some grassy spots on the beach farm that you can use sprinklers on so its not all sand. The boxes washing up on shore is fun too, you get all sorts of different things!

The area you can use sprinklers in is 202 tiles. It is basically 20 wide x 10 tall (8 iridium sprinklers covers this, leaving you with 192 tiles) and another 2 tiles on the west end (a quality sprinkler set in the grass next to it covers it nicely). With sprinklers that is 194 tillable tiles that can be covered by sprinklers. (Late game spoiler:) If you want to cover this entire area with junimo huts, you can do so with 2 placed in the area and using up tillable space, reducing your tillable tiles by another 12 to 182... or you can do it with 3 junimo huts placed outside/around the tillable area (1 above and below, and 1 centered on the west side) leaving you with the 194 tiles max.
