All we know is that the player was somewhere with a giant Joja office. For all we know, the employees lived at the office, so the surrounding area doesn't make that much of a difference.

"The City"... an un-named, faceless place of oppressive terror, where Joja was the best place you could work. The best? Who would ever want to live in a place like that? A place where you were just one face in a mob of people, where nobody knew each other. Did you know one of your ex-coworkers from Joja is in Pelican Town every year for the Stardew Valley Fair? Do you know her name? No. Nobody knew each other. You're better off here.

There was a thread recently about the day you arrive in the valley. It's the day before spring, so it should be the last day of winter, but it's obviously not. It seems you arrive on a day that does not exist, from a place that also does not exist.

Sometimes I like to imagine that Stardew and VA-11 Hall-A (aka Valhalla) are in the same universe.

I was thinking something closer to 2300 AD (the post-apocalyptic Future) from Chrono Trigger.

Been playing a lot of 2D games lately.
