I want to dye it black

I tried searching the forums about this and didn't get any results. Am I mistaken in thinking that clothing can be dyed black? I tried using something that the wiki says is black, but it didn't give me the option to use it.

I have only used Dye Pots to dye clothing so I don't have much info on using the Sewing Machine, which is what it sounds like you are doing...

Some clothing is unable to be dyed while other pieces are dyeable. For shirts, it usually depends on the origin of the clothes, if you created them or if they were what you chose when you built your character. The tailoring page I linked has more on that topic.

Hope the links can lead you to a more complete answer!

OK, I did this the fun way - just grab a bunch of stuff and tailor it until I found something dyeable and then dye it Black, using the Sewing Machine.

I eventually made a Shirt and Belt from a Parsnip, and then dyed it 3x with Coal to get this final output:

As you can see, it's really a Lego Batman Very Very Dark Gray™. When dyeing anything using the Sewing Machine, you need to do 3 passes with your color to get its full saturation. The first pass to me always looks light gray, with no color. I just go through and waste 3x Ruby or 3x Coal, or 3x Emerald, etc. to get that real saturated jewel-tone Emily color.

I have a dyeable piece of clothing. I was wearing it. But what I had in my inventory that the wiki said would dye it black was not able to be used with the dye pots. Am I supposed to put it through the sewing machine again with the items I want to use instead of using the dye pots?

I've never used the dye pots, but to dye clothes black in the sewing machine, I use coal. Anywhere from 3 to 8 times. I use milk for white, and fruits, vegetables, or flowers for most other colors. I use the least expensive thing, like peppers for red, or fiber for green.

The problem may be that if you're looking at the dye pots, there is no option for black. You must use the sewing machine if the color you're looking for isn't represented in the dye pots.

See, now there was my problem. I was trying to use the dye pots instead of the sewing machine. Silly me! :proud:

That would be a problem.

There is a way to get black with the dye pots but it is not with a black item. You need an item of every one of the colors to choose black dye.
