[Spoilers] I regret most of the Golden Walnut purchases.

Outside of accessing new spaces on the Ginger Island, most of the remaining purchases aren't worth the trouble. My biggest regret is the Farm Obelisk, which I only did for the sake of completion. It's entirely useless because I have the Return Scepter, which puts me at the door of my house no matter where I am. That's 40 Qi Gems . . . gone.

If I start a new save, I'm gonna be far more stingy about what I purchase.

You can't spend golden walnuts on Qi gems until you've spent them on every island upgrade. Sorry, you can't skip getting the obelisk or any other upgrade that someone may find worthless (like the escape route, the bridge over the lava, even the parrot express) in order to get more Qi gems.

Yeah, better to think of the things you can get with golden walnuts as unlocking stuff, rather than purchasing. Because as Imnvs said, you can't do anything else with them until afterwards.

I don't think it's annoying at all. It's different, but the stuff the island unlocks is pretty awesome.

I like to think of it as colonizing a new land you're settling and bringing civilization to, only with parots as your labor force and golden walnuts as their salary.
