It also stops weeds from spawning, I'm not sure what you're referring to with crab pots. As far as I know the Gold Clock doesn't affect crab pots in any way.

The best farming professions are Tiller at level 5 and Artisan at level 10. While there is food that gives a farming buff, all it does is reduce the amount of energy you use when tilling soil. I haven't ever used food when farming and I don't personally think it's necessary.
