Hi everyone
I play on switch, if I start a farm now will I be able to play once 1.5 comes or will I have to start again

There is some content (new beach farm layout, advanced starting options) that are only available if you start fresh, but most of it is endgame content.

You will not be required to start over to experience 99% of the update.

we still have some time before it comes to switch but the majority of the update is endgame and adds new content. The only other content was the beach house and some options for starting the game which really shouldnt effect you if you've played awhile
