1.6 Update What happened in your game today?

Figured I should play at least a day. Realized I'd left the phone alone for long enough that it had turned itself completely off, and that I hadn't played for almost a week. The "meh, why bother" has been strong.

Day 12 of Fall. Second day of Extended Family quest. Quite a few fishes caught, but only one Legend II and it put up quite a fight before I could land it. Either luck wasn't with me, or my depression influenced the game.

The "meh, why bother" has been strong.

I been there, at least regarding this. Are you working toward something and getting tired of the drudgery or just don't have a particular goal in mind? It's totally valid to set something aside for awhile. I should know, I have a plethora of hobbies that I seem to rotate between as I get (re-) excited about one of them and not very interested in another, but I still enjoy all of them when I'm doing them.

Lately I've been circling that particular drain, but I'm at a point where I can still fight the urge to give in.

- I completed all the monster eradication goals

- I caught The Legend, the very last fish I needed

- I requested a new coop so I can have even more rabbits eventually

- I collected a few new hats

I know that feeling. I've had days where I wondered whether something huge, like a house fire taking everything, or winning the lottery, would actually make a difference. I didn't feel it would, but since neither extreme ever happened, I don't have empirical proof of that...
Lately I've been circling that particular drain, but I'm at a point where I can still fight the urge to give in.

I take valerian pills to help me through. If the mood is like the gearstick of a car, for me valerian puts the gears in neutral rather than being stuck in reverse. Makes it possible to push the car forwards step by step. Realized about a week ago that I had to go up to maximum daily dose, or every 4 hours, apart from at night. Felt imagination draining and the SDV fanfic I'm writing had to be paused.

My game save does have a specific goal, to reach 1 billion G earned. Was at 66% of the way there at the beginning of year 14... But right now I just can't play more than an occasional day. Starting a new game also can't be done, since my decision-making is set to slow. My playing went down first, as I tried to not get the game further ahead of the fanfic than it already was. There's already 13 years between them...

So, even with their sword back, Rowan had no luck on the prismatic slime quest, even with a rainy day right after. But at least they didn't get stabbed again by anything much.

Mostly, they did the standard farm things, with some extra fishing. Though they took a day to move some of the items cluttering their house into the "shed"; Robin had built them an extra special one, with a lot of glass to show the scenery through the windows, and a large grassy patch kept alive by the sun. They really had no reason to move any crops indoors, but it was so relaxing in there that having a nice sit-down area sounded worthwhile. The plan to put a bunch of kegs into the wooden floor areas later, and start making wine there felt like an even more distant idea than usual; never mind that the kegs in their improvised little machine area beside the house were processing a couple of loads of coffee and tea daily and shouldn't either be moved or stopped with that essential task.

The flowers they hoped to grow giant had bloomed, and the new sprinkler gave them a second such location for a possible giant - they were kicking themselves after the fact for not overlapping it with the one line of coffee plants that still needed watering by hand, but since that line of coffee plants was the main reason they remembered to run down to the crop patch no matter what the date, it might be silly to change it...

In any case, several days passed quietly, pleasant to live through but without much to tell. The next venture out among people was going to be the trout derby.

Saturday Robin started on the stable. I continued tidying up the rest of the farm.

On Sunday I went to the desert to trade for bombs and staircases, and to buy new starfruit seeds. I planted some on Ginger Island, and accidentally sold most of the beets I had there, that were meant to be turned into sugar. Also, I had thought I brought some staircases with me to deconstruct, but I think I accidentally threw them back into the chest when I was throwing cactus fruit in there. I'm getting too used to that arrow button...

Still, my starfruit wine was ready (now waiting to be aged once I have space in the basement), and so was the ancient fruit wine, which I mostly sold. I'm getting close to the 2 million gold I need for my Return Sceptre.

The next Monday was Gus' birthday. I almost missed it, because the statue gave me a diamond, and it gives those on ordinary days, too. I spent the day just running up and down on the farm, doing nothing special. The Qi quest weren't interesting enough. There was an extended family request, but I just didn't feel like fishing. Not while I have barely any wood or stone in my chests.

In any case, several days passed quietly, pleasant to live through but without much to tell. The next venture out among people was going to be the trout derby.

Well, if the last two days before the trout derby were supposed to be event-free, the Green Rain put paid to that... Rowan hacked and slashed their way around their farm - the grassy areas weren't bad but every beach was covered, and there was a lot of beach... They found four different strange scraps of paper in the midst; a scrawl in nearly inhuman writing requesting may-pull syrup, a weird treasure hunt style map, and two musings from someone's diary or letter, about things they loved. One was the pretty artist, too...

The day after was pouring normal rain, and an occasional shocking jolt of lightning, so Rowan went back into the mines, and made it to another of the mysterious treasure chests. Which contained exactly the same boots they'd just bought from Marlon. Oh, well, two such pairs of boots meant they'd last twice as long.

Trout derby ho! Because of the stop at the carpenter's, and the community centre (though handing in the last lake fish, a sturgeon, netted them a highly useful dressed spinner), Rowan was a bit belated starting to fish, casting their line in front of Leah's cottage just before noon. And was three pike and one golden tag in before sheepishly remembering that maybe they needed to LOAD the trout bait. They also hit the point of dizzy exhaustion before remembering to eat again. Still, when they warped home at 1:30, their only break to say hello to Willy, Elliott and Leah when the latter popped out of her cottage, and to turn in the tags en masse at midnight, the final count was 34 trout, and 10 golden tags. Not a record, not even quite as much as they'd hoped for, but not embarrassing. And they put most of the fish - all the non-trout and half the trout - into the bin just in time.

And one of the treasure chests had yielded the dried starfish that both the museum and the rainbow trout pond had been asking for. The trout pond would get this one, which seemed only fair, considering how it was earned.

The SquidFest was here!
I was really looking forward to going fishing, but I only managed to catch two squid… I’m just terrible at fishing. 🥲

Sebastian was there, so I went to talk to him. He said he was going to “hang out with some old friends.” That made me wonder… Sam and Abigail are “old” friends? Not “usual” friends?
I felt a little sad about that. 🥲

I haven’t visited the Clinic very often, so I thought, “Maybe I should stop by once in a while!”
Harvey was busy concentrating on something in his room, so I thought, “Perfect! Time for some mischief!”
I decorated the room with flamingos here and there. 🦩
And then Harvey couldn’t get out of the room!

I knew Gus could get trapped by my flamingos, but I didn’t know other people could get stuck too! It’s a whole new discovery!
Now I’m getting excited about all the other kinds of mischief I might be able to get up to! 🦩

On Tuesday I checked the bulletin board. There was a quest to kill 50 bats, so I took it and went to the jungle floors in the mines to get the rocks, wood and hardwood there while killing bats. I got 12 on the first day. And more importantly, I found a level 4 parrot egg. The last trinket I hadn't found yet, and at this stage of the game it's definitely the most useful one.
The prize machine gave me a treasure chest and an iridium sprinkler.

Wednesday was Maru's birthday. The rest of the day was for farming and trying to kill bats. I just don't get enough of them, maybe I should try monster musk.

Thursday was the luau. I spent most of the morning working on the farm, then went to see Krobus to buy a Return Sceptre.
I brought a gold-star red cabbage to the luau, the soup was amazing and I didn't really talk to anyone. I'm not sure why I felt the need to go.

I didn't even have a lot of time to feel weird about having only 5500 or so gold in total, because on Friday I'd already increased that to 26,000 and change.

Midwinter Y 3 for Malec now, and he made some more progress very fast. Gained his last mastery now and the banana tree beared the first fruits, so he managed to gather enough walnuts to finally enter the walnut room. Skipped the cutscene with Mr Qi, this Ego is kinda unbearable Took the Extended Family Quest from the Board, but didn't check in the perfection tracker (no need to run into Fizz everytime visiting the Island cave yet...) He didn't manage to catch a Legend II, but at least Crimson Fish Jr., so the Crab Pond was emptied to be its new home now. Malec's got roundabout 2,5 Mio Cash actually and soon enough bananas and Iridium Bars, so hopefully by the end of Winter there's enough money for the Island Obelisk and the Return Scepter. P&P will probably have to wait a bit longer for their cozy house, sorry. Keeping up with his girls is kinda hard rn, to much other things to do and still no Scapula and Soapstone to complete the museum... Hm, priorities, priorities

I'm approaching the end of year 2 in my Stardew Valley Expanded playthrough, but wonder how much I'm missing. I've seen some extra cutscenes, I know, but am struggling to get Olive and a few others up. Finally got 5 hearts with Sophia but I haven't found out why she's so skittish and sad. Max hearts with Andy, though. Have found that Olive does NOT like beer despite hanging out at the saloon. Nice to see Haley and Alex show up there to play games sometimes now.

Grandpa Verdict wise: I feel pretty good. I have the full coop and barn, my skills are maxed out, lots of money, and I have upgraded the house. I have a LOT of hearts with villagers, including max hearts for girlfriend Abigail, Pierre, and a few other of the bachelors. Planning on dancing with Sophia at the Flower dance in year 3 to see if Abigail reacts. I ignored the community center the first year to focus on the new content, but now I'm only 1 potato, 1 piece of candy, and a few fish away from completion. Considering how many potatoes I grow, it's ludicrous that I never remembered to turn one in. I know I'll get 3 candles, not sure about 4.

Midwinter still and Malec had a few lucky days. Managed to catch a lot of fish at the Night Market and smoked them. Finally found a Scapula at the Digsite and a soapstone by cracking a few Omni Geodes, so the Museum is completed now and Gunther's happy. Penny probably too, has a lot new stuff to show and teach now.
And bought the Island Obelisk from the Wizard, now the focus is on the Scepter. A second Dino Egg is hatching and one of the goats gave birth to a baby goat. Got Pierre as Secret friend for the Winter Star

The fish around here are pretty tough, and they often get away from me.
I gave Leo some freshly picked fruit, and he was really happy!

Somehow, I got lucky enough to see one of Leo’s events!
Unfortunately, it ended up looking like he was playing hide-and-seek behind the flamingos I happened to have placed there… Sorry, Leo! 🦩🫥

Started my Skull Cavern challenge to see how far I can get with no staircases at all.

First, I tried looking it up, and found a YouTube video of somebody reaching floor 369.

After a few tries, I got to 312, but it was far from optimal conditions.

I feel like beating 369 will be very doable. I hope it takes alot of tries, because I can't think of anything else to do in this game until 1.7

Today, the salmon roe I had put in a preserves jar finished aging, so I collected a bunch of it!

Wait… WHAT?!
It wasn’t IKURA?!

It had turned into “Aged Roe” instead.
I thought there would be salmon roe → IKURA, since sturgeon roe becomes caviar… but apparently, there is no IKURA in Stardew Valley! 🥲
I wanted to have an IKURA festival and give it to everyone!

During the Feast of the Winter Star, I gave George a present. He was really happy, which made me happy too.
And then Gus gave me a present!
But… Gus is supposed to be trapped between all my flamingos at the Saloon…
I wonder how he managed to escape long enough to give me a present.

I’m already looking forward to deciding what to plant next spring!
