What pepper is the hot pepper based off of?

Me and my friend were arguing about what pepper the hot pepper is.

I think it's a ghost pepper...

Most likely. It’s also possible it’s Aji Sivri, though considering Cayenne is more well known, it’s probably that.

I figured cayenne, or the sort of standard Thai ones their restaurants throw into stir fries (these: https://canadapickles.ca/shop/charc...0Rvo4MrrAMDAeK5O1gfpgS8pkbgCSaq5f8rEGMhkBjC5x).

Things like ghost pepper and such weren't really on the general radar in the same way 10 years ago. I mean, I knew they existed, but not the same way I knew about chili peppers in my thai red curry (ie, biting into them on occasion) or cayenne (dried in a jar in my spice drawer)

Ghost peppers are shaped quite differently from the sprite though, so it's probably something different. I'm sure there must be something on the spicier side that's also long and skinny like that...

To be fair, only the sprite looks like that pepper. It never really tells us or lets us pick which pepper we are planting, and also it's kinda unusual to make pepper poppers out of cayennes

@LRangerR agreed that cayenne pepper wouldn't be the pepper used for pepper poppers - from my research it's jalapenos.

So it's got me thinking it could be a really ripe red jalapeno used in the pepper popper recipe. There can be variation in the growth of jalapenos that can give them a little curve in shape (well when I've grown them anyway). Though they usually are wide, not long and skinny.

How I'd love a mod where we can plant different types of chillis. I've currently got the Cornucopia mod where I can plant jalapenos, but to be able to plant more varieties, with new spicy recipes too - and the spicier the recipe the more food buffs you get (speed, attack and luck buffs come to mind).

I've had pepper poppers in Ancho, Anaheim, Ortega, and others as well. Also you can stuff bell peppers but those are nasty vile creatures.

All of them were green. Not to say that you can't stuff a non-green pepper. But they're also the fatter variety. But the question was what is the icon used for a pepper, not what pepper are we using to make shane's pepper poppers, so i'm sticking to my guns here.

@LRangerR fair enough. I think I'll stick to my guns too thinking about the pepper sprite in relation to pepper poppers. it's been fun for me deducing what pepper the sprite might represent based on a recipe it's been used in.

That’s the best part of open-ended game art - unless Concerned Ape posts an official statement or it’s listed on the Wiki, there’s plenty of room for both exact real-world comparisons and fun fan theories. I just love seeing all the different ways people interpret the game.
