Maybe this is niche but i have ptsd and seeing letters and gifts from a virtual mom or dad can be quite triggering to me. Its something thats always made me play this game less and ive thought of a simple solution. What if during game creation you could type in a word to replace mom/dad. It makes the experience more customazible and more friendly to players who dont have any good memories to associate with "mom" or "dad".

I’m so sorry about your trauma.

I understand that people might say “we can’t TW the world for you” but this wouldn’t just help people with PTSD and trauma from family relationships but also people with single parents, grandparents, sapphic/homosexual parents, or any other type of guardian.

Well you're not alone there's at least one similar suggestion. In that thread there's also a mod with a solution, if you can use them. But yeah that does sound simple enough and doesn't take away anything, only makes the game better for everyone who might need that option.
And even if I personally have no problem with receiving letters from farmer's parents, would be fun to be able to change it to something else.

Yes, it would make the experience more customisable. For example if you are playing and old farmer it would not make much sense for them to still have parents. Or you could make it so that a friend is sending the letters.

Yeah, thats what the mod does, replaces your parent with best friend. Also if you're making up a backstory for your farmer, maybe there was a friend who also wanted to move to Stardew Valley, but had to stay in Zuzu city and now they're writing you letters.

Yeah i sadly cant use mods (playing on xbox) but it makes me happy to see support for my idea (well, not just my idea aparently lol). I agree it would be helpful for some and fun for others. It makes your farmers story more your own and thats cool

I have only a little bit of coding knowledge. From my understanding however, it should be a very easy bit of code to insert into the game. Thank you also <3

maybe like the favourite thing, the player could enter a “favourite person” on the character creation screen. I don’t like that currently the mom sends cookies and the dad money, it feels pointlessly gendered. That could maybe be randomized as well.

Yea! It kinda feels a tad bit sexist… I know that's not the point, but yea

Love this idea! Especially the randomizing the gift/s so its less pointlessly gender
