Things you never do

I've been thinking about ten years of Stardew Valley. I have probably played for thousands of hours . I try different ways of playing in many playthroughs, but some things I have never done.

I never go Joja
I never build a slime hutch
I never marry Sam or Alex

Sorry about Sam and Alex to those who love them, but put down to my age. I'd prefer Marlon.

Do others always play the same way or do you try every option available?

I never do Joja
I never marry Haley or Emily (too much pink in clothes or spouse room). I've also never married Sam, Maru and Penny, but they're still on my maybe list.
I never build the stable

I usually play approximately the same way, but since I have picked different farm maps most of the time, and pick remixed bundles these days, there is some variation.

More or less the same with me:
No Joja
No Slime Hutch
No stable (so far)
No Arcade Games (except with Abby)
I never romance/marry the Bachelorettes (so far)
I never go for all golden walnuts (always buy a few)

The variety comes from playing different maps and trying different ways to make money. Still entertaining.

I've never cleared the trees a out.

I've never cleared the trees a out.
I've come close on my mobile save; every tree in the farm is cleared except the tapper area and the token 3 in the animal pasture because I feel weird if the beasties don't have shade. (That they never use). But there are trees in the tapper area that aren't tapped yet, and are just hanging out being trees....

I actually need to plant a few more.

What have I never done?

Perfectly arranged my crops by type. 1: I use too many wild seeds to fill out corners, 2: I buy a bit of a variety of things when I shop for seeds (and never count in advance how many of anything I might need). The closest I had was a huge strawberry field surrounded by coffee plants (surrounded in turn by kegs) to the left of the greenhouse in my first ever farmer, and the edges of the strawberries and coffee were ragged as anything because I planted it over days.

Min-maxxed anything. Too stressful.

I've done loose challenges; minimizing chests, or reducing certain activities (eg, I have a farmer who isn't supposed to pick up forage now she's finished that community centre room, though I occasionally forget and grab a daffodil or sweet pea or leek strictly for gifting) , but never a full-on "your farmer CANNOT do (common activity in game) at all ever" hardcore challenge run.

(So far) I've never built any fences on my farm. The animals are free to roam around among my giant overgrown forest. (Though it's annoying when I forget to close the barn/coop doors at night.) I guess my farm is less a farm and more a kind of clearing in the wilderness, which, come to think of it, was kind of how it was where I grew up. There were farms around us, but we let the forest grow.

I've built fences out of tea saplings on a couple of farms now, instead of building fencing proper. The only "problem" this leads to is the excess of tea leaves.

I still put fences around a (large) area for the animals most times if I'm on one of the farms without natural dividers, but even then, I've mostly stopped using gates unless there's somewhere I *really* don't want them to go.

I haven't bothered fencing in the barn animals on riverland since they stay on their island 90% of the time and are easy to find the rest of the time. I do have a fence for the coop animals to make it easier to find and pet them. But I'm using a mod that makes ducks swim even more often (they stay landbound until petted then dive in off and on the rest of the day), they'd go swimming, and get out of the water on the wrong side of the fence too many times, so I had to make sure it had no gate.

I remember another thing I never do. I never close the barn and coop doors at night. There doesn't seem to be any penalty (some people said animal friendship grows slower - is that even true?) so I close it once a year, at the start of winter, then open it on Spring 1.

Same with me, I only close them through winter and it doesn't seem to influence the animals in any way... They use to stay inside and don't wander around by night. But maybe it doesn't matter anyway, cause I always disable the "wild animals attack"...

I've never had a wild animal attack yet. probably because I don't close the doors.

In the real world, of course, you need a lot more protection than that, and wild animals figure out an open door just fine, but I'm kind of glad my cozy game doesn't have that serious a punishment mechanism.

I never do the Joja route (I downloaded a save from Nexus to unlock that achievement ).
I never prioritize animals over crops, or have more than two coops and barns each.
I never try to maximize profits or optimize my farm. Aesthetics over capitalism.
I never even consider romancing anyone except Elliott and Maru. Most of the others I am indifferent towards, dislike, or, in a few cases (looking at you, Haley and smoker-Sebastian) can't stand.
I never build a Slime Hutch.
I had to do it once to get the Steam achievement, but never again will I have a family with kids. The crib goes up in flames every time.

There is no penalty, but closing the door does give you an added friendship bonus, so you're technically missing out on the maximum possible friendship gain. But even knowing that, I never close the doors either.
