PC [HELP] Old Save File Keeps Crashing Upon Start-Up, Please Help?

I have an old game save file (year 7 ~200 hours), but every time I try to open it, it crashes. I have multiple other save files and they all work fine except for this one. I tried the basic troubleshooting (deleting current SaveGameInfo and <character name>, then renaming the "_old" file) but it didn't work. Also, it seems that my game folder has "Jsonassets" that doesn't want to delete? Every time I do so, it just comes back. I'm not sure if this is the reason for the crash?

Please can anyone help me? Thanks.

PS: I don't have mods installed or SMAPI on my folder (I removed it all).

If you used to play with mods on this file, that is probably why the crash is happening, even if you've removed the mods.
There's no easy way to move past that except to wait for the mods that you used to use on that file get updated for 1.5 compatibility.

Thanks for your response, ConcernedApe! Does that mean I have to add the old mods I used to use in the main folder again, then wait for 1.5 compatibility? Will I only be able to play my old save with mods? :(

There's a subforum for mod support on these forums, feel free to ask for help there! SMAPI itself can clean up a lot of stuff in your save though, so I'd just run it once with SMAPI and no mods installed to let SMAPI handle crashy stuff, save, then either continue playing with SMAPI installed (because why not) or uninstall and continue from there. If it still doesn't run after that, there may be more stuff in your save that needs manual editing, so you could at that point start a new thread in mod support (or this one could be moved :) ) and we could go from there.

Hi Mouse, I did what you said (launched SDV on Smapi) and it worked! Thank you so much!! I'm going to try to figure out how to play it on Steam (so I can get the achievements) and do as ConcernedApe said (wait until the other mods update for my file to properly work). Thanks again <3
