About SDV2 Project (My Feedback)

I shared this feedback in a Discord server for Stardew Valley and someone recommended me to post the same feedback to here.

So I've been hearing rumors about an SDV2 project. I wanted to say that instead of making a separate sequel, why not just officially make a major expansion to SDV and add more places and people to the game, like Joja Corporation or Zuzu City and its denizens? They always mentioned places in the game but no way to visit them. I'm taking inspiration from the Expanded mods that I seen other people play, but never played myself since I'm on console and mobile.
I wish there was a way to tell ConcernedApe my feedback, but what do y'all think?

Are you thinking of Haunted Chocolatier?

There’s no harm in giving this feedback, and I think Zuzu City content would be cool. But CA has added an amazing amount of content for free already, and I think he wants to do something different for a while. Creative minds need to change things up sometimes. I’m excited to play Haunted Chocolatier when it comes out.

I actually heard of Haunted Chocolatier, but no. There was an online article I read somewhere that Eric and his team was considering making a direct sequel to Stardew Valley, but haven't gotten around to it due to their time making new updates and patches to the first game and development on HC.

I was suggesting just keeping to the original SDV and continue adding new updates and major content.

...is often the better way when fundamental design-concepts cant be expanded for new features.
Similar to houses devs always can build only what a game basement allows. Expanding a basement is pretty hard and expansiv - and even then you mostly dont get everything you want. So it's easier to build a new basement that allows more features and build up on that!

Fair enough. Perhaps I worry that SDV2 may not get as much love as the original. I seen a lot of games with sequels growing up, and half of those sequels either fell off or just didn't make the cut that developers have hoped for.

Ja, true.
But if CA plans or designs a SDV2 I am pretty hopeful it's close to the first game and maybe even compatible with it and its mod-extensions. :-)

Personally, based on how he's expanding SDV and working on Haunted Chocolatier and those are the only things ConcernedApe himself is on record as having on his plate, I suspect this is one of those internet rumours created by someone wanting it to be true, rather than based on anything real.

If it becomes real someday, cool; I'd like to see him build another town entirely somewhere else in the valley, with a slightly different focus. (Some options: maybe the newcomer is a crafter first and the farming is reduced, or it's about a restaurant/inn instead of a farm, and/or it's in a more urban setting -- or maybe it's set in the Fern Islands so instead of 4 seasons you have a rainy season followed by one that's mostly dry and hot but has a risk of hurricanes, changing what you have to plan your farming and building around. Extra fun if it's the island with the dinosaurs).

It would be amusing to make sure it's a place which people from Pelican Town might visit (and tie the games together by adding in some references within SDV 1 in an update), but if it's real, I also suspect it's not something likely to be released until 2032 or later, so have no plans to hold my breath ...
