What are some misconceptions or mistakes you had about SDV when you first played?

I thought there would be more crafting needed tbh.

Honestly I didn't know what to expect. I'd heard about the game from a friend who usually overhypes games and saw it on the PSN sale for £3.99 and figured I'd download it.

I loved games like Harvest Moon: A Wonderful life and Terraria and he said it was the perfect combination of the two. So I loaded expecting to be able to build, dig etc and after 20 mins of playing wasn't overly impressed so I switched off and just left it.

Then last September I was made redundant from my job and decided to take some time off to spend time with my then 5 month old daughter, one day she was fast asleep and I decided to play some PS4, I'd just finish replaying Final Fantasy IX and was scrolling through my games and accidentally clicked on SDV. I thought why not play until she wakes up from her nap, so I loaded up and as it turns out her nap was quite a long one so I ended up getting through quite a few days. That was it, I was hooked... then my partner saw me playing it one day and got into it as well. Now we await 1.5 so we can do a farm together.

TLDR: Thought it was Terraria/Harvest Moon combined. Realised it was different... but better.

Man, I feel like I have a good answer for this thread but not much is coming to mind. I started my game riiiiiight before 1.08 and maybe 1.07 (i forget which, there was an update that added more to the spouses and we got that update right before i got married i remember) so I've had a lot of time to adjust to newer features. I would say I didn't use crafting nearly as much as I did and I didn't really use it to its fullest, like the Junimo rewards were about the only ones I did so my playthrough was extremely inefficient and like, the crafting achievement wasn't even a thought for me at the time

When I first started, I couldn't work out why my chickens were constantly looking a 'little thin'. Even after working out that feeding them was probably a good Idea, found in near impossible to get the hay into the hay bit. I also regret accidently getting rid of all my gold star pumpkins while I was doing my clear out into the shipping box without realising. I had to wait another year for the bundle to be completed. :bchicken::wchicken:

If Marnie had seen me when I first got chickens she would take them back, and I don't blame her. I bought them in winter, and didn't know I needed a heater, and it never even occurred to me to feed the poor things.

When I started I thought the Television was the in-game temptation of your old life, like how your mom tells you not to watch too much or sit too close to it. So I avoided it like the plague for close to 2 years, thus missing out on all the game hints, half of the Recipes, that Luck was even a thing, and the Weather Report so I could plan around rain. If not for the reminders Lewis sends in the Mail, I'd have missed out on much of the rest of the game.

I'm playing this save again and am about 1 year farther in and only now are the Queen of Sauce recipes ones that I already know.

Edit: and I thought the Horse was just a place to hang your hat (props to Uzzlegorf), not realizing it was an outdoor +4 Speed buff. It was the first thing I got when picking up this save again. The only problem with the Horse is it doesn't follow you around when you're busy doing something else, and then when you need it again it's halfway across the map. Like my IRL coffee at home.

Better late than never for both.

It's been so long ago I can't really think of much... I do remember one thing, which wasn't as embarrassing, but I really didn't know who Elliott was UNTIL THE FLOWER DANCE on my first save, and definitely seeing him as a girl at first. I also thought Shane loved Joja Cola since he wore that Joja hoodie all the time. (Sorry, Shane...)

My first farmer managed to find a small glow ring early in the mines. I happily tossed in my backpack and headed home. “Huh,” I wondered “How come this ring isn’t glowing? Is it just really weak? Maybe I need to activate it somehow.”

I walked around with the ring IN MY BACKPACK for several days. Then I took good look at my backpack inventory and noticed an image of my farmer. There, as clear as day if I had bothered to look, were slots for clothing with a space to wear a ring.

I’m still embarrassed about that to this day.

When I first started, I was DETERMINED Abigail would be my wife, so I would waste all my money on Jazz, and Tulip seeds that would raise her hearts slower than a snail! This is now my second play though, so I read the wiki frequently, and know what she likes:abigail:

PS, In this play though me and Abby are great friends (6 hearts) but this time I found my soulmate:haley::haley::haley::haley:
