Purchase advice

I hope that someone can point a dad in the right direction. I read the posting guidance and I don't think that I'm breaking any rules and I also searched the forums and can't answer this.

I'm looking to get SDV for my son on the Switch for Christmas and I'm seeing huge price discrepancies. If I buy from a big UK retailer the price is over three times what it is for a digital download from Nintendo. Ok, I know that digital downloads should cost less, but am I missing something fundamental here? Are they different versions or something? I really don't want to mess this up, so some help would be really appreciated.

Thanks a lot everyone.

As far as I know, the game has been available only digital for a long time. The physical version is probably a recently released collectors edition.

The game content should be exactly the same. The collectors edition is more for people who already love the game and like having it on their shelf.

I don't know how updates would work with a physical copy? Because the digital files still get updated with be content.

Yes, the physical version is priced higher because it's more for people who are really interested in having a physical copy of the game. The game itself will be exactly the same though, so you can just get the digital version.
