Switch [BUG] Software update loop

We purchased the download version of the game for my kids switch last weekend and since it dowloaded we have been unable to get the game started. We have been seeing this “A software update is required. Update data will be downloaded now.” We press download and then the bubble pops back up with the same message. I contacted Nintendo and they ran me through some stuff and directed me here. Any and all help would be so appreciated.

I am also having this same issue on the Switch. I played for maybe an hour with a hard copy of the game, enjoyed it so I bought the digital copy... and now I cannot play the game. Very ironic actually! I hope there is a way to fix this without me purchasing a hard copy

Not that it changes anything immediately since I cant exactly look into this issue myself (i am but a humble forum administrator), but I did pass on this exact bug to the devs. Since this is on the Switch, it's probably in Sickhead's ballpark but they should be aware of it and hopefully can take care of it soon

Do both of you only own the digital version? I've seen this happen with someone who owns both the physical and digital copies as well

I had this issue with the hard copy, too. If you can get a person with the hard copy to bring their switch nearby, use the update feature "Match Version with Local Users" in software update. Make sure the switch that wants to play with the downloaded version does not have the physical copy. With the hard copy inserted, the version is 1.4.4.1 , and the download available on the shop is only 1.4.4 so this is causing the error. If the switch with the hard copy wants to play with the download, reverse the process and update again. Once complete, the version should always read 1.4.4.1 even if the hard copy is not inserted.

I am also having this issue. I've had the digital version on my Switch for a while, got the physical copy, played some on that and now I can't get back into the digital version because it keeps wanting me to update. I don't have anyone else with a Switch that I can use to try Madmartigen's fix.
