Mac Silver saplings produce regular fruit when transplanted to greenhouse?

Relatively new to playing (Jan of this year!), so not sure if I'm missing something - from what I've seen online, when a fruit tree has started making silver-quality fruit you can chop it down and get a silver sapling you can replant and will start growing silver right away once matured.

So beginning of Fall in Y2 I cut down 2/3 of my Summer trees giving me silver fruit and got silver saplings to replant in the greenhouse, but now it's mid-Winter Y2 and the silver saplings are producing regular fruit. :( What did I do wrong? I'm so bummed. but glad I at least have one sapling still making its way to gold. :\

That’s my understanding too, but they’re also supposed to mature faster depending on quality. Did you notice they were quicker to grow? Wondering if it’s greenhouse specific issue or not.

They will grow quicker and then they will move through the qualities quicker, but they’ll always start at the base quality. You’ll get back to silver in less than a year though.

OH, the description I've seen pretty much everywhere online did not make that obvious. XD So how does that work though?

Spring 3 Y1Summer 3 Y1basic
Fall 1 Y1Summer 1 Y2silver
Fall 1 Y2 [silver sapling]Summer 1 Y3basic? silver when?
Fall 1 Y3 [gold sapling?]Summer 1 Y4basic > silver > gold?

I'm trying to figure out how you ever get to iridium fruit if it keeps starting over from basic every time you replant? Not that I plan to keep replanting, but I keep seeing how that's a "hack" and I'm just not getting how. :\

Thanks for helping!

Shoot, I didn't even think to look. Inasmuch as I started a new game, I'll go back to that one and keep going, if I hit silver sooner, then sweet, although it'll be hard to tell in the greenhouse since it fruits year-round. XD
