My idea was inspired by the festivals in the Sims 4. The problem with adding new festivals in the game is that it would take too much up of the calendar but I think there is a way around it. I think that new festivals could be added to the game by making the festivals take place somewhere else such as in Zuzu city which was seen in Sam's heart event . There is already a location available so I think it can be doable. Here is how I think it should go:
- The new festivals can be on fixed days in the month (like the original festivals) or maybe they could be a random festival each time to make it more exciting
- To get to the festivals, you buy a ticket at the bus station like how you go to the Calico desert. (This also means the new festivals are locked until you unlock the bus station to give players more to work towards to)
- The new festivals always start and end at a fixed time like the original festivals. You end by riding the bus back to stardew valley
- The festivals take place where the concert took place. Just remove the stage and make the location explorable
- Maybe other NPCs can go with you like how you can ask them to go to the movies together. Like a date which raises your relationship with them but certain NPCs have festivals they are interested to go to like how they have movies they prefer
- Each festival has a store that sells exclusive items for the festival
- I don't have any specific festivals in mind but I would like to see festivals focused on the multiplayer aspect of the game such as:
- A horse racing (or go karts) festival where you can race other players you play with or NPCS
- It could be a straight track or circular with obstacles
- There could be numerous races of different difficulties with prizes
- Maybe there could also be a horse betting game like in Harvest Moon Friends of Mineral Town
- This could also be a way to make raising your horse more interactive because increasing your relationship with your horse could make it faster/agile or there could be different kinds of horses that you could purchase like in Harvest Moon Tale of Two Towns
- A laser tag/paintball type of game where you use your slingshot to hit other players/NPCs for points
- It could take place in an arena with places to take cover
- A dungeon exploring game where you and other players dive into dungeons but instead of mining, your goal is to defeat enemies with bosses at the end each floor
- The goal is to get as far as you can without dying
- This takes advantage of the fact that time doesn't pass during festivals, meaning that its like exploring the skull cavern and being able to see how far you could actually go without a time limit
- This could also be a way of enjoying the combat aspects of the game
- Players can only bring weapons into the dungeon so you cannot bring restorative items. Treasure and healing items are picked up along the way or by defeating enemies. Maybe you can earn points instead which are exchanged at the end of each run
- A horse racing (or go karts) festival where you can race other players you play with or NPCS
- For the all festivals in general, make the rewards different depending on what year you are on. They do not have to be different for every year but like maybe the rewards can cycle within 4 years or something
- For the egg festival, randomize the location of the eggs each year. This can be done by limiting the eggs that spawn (so you know where to look but you are never sure if they are there). This might make playing the egg hunt in multiplayer more fun.
- For the flower dance, maybe a mini-game can be added where you have to correctly hit buttons in time? This can be done during the short sequence where the dance actually happens then your partner would comment on how you did. Maybe it could also affect the relationship points you gain in the end.
- For the luau, maybe there could be a theme for what to bring that is different each year?
- For the dance of the moonlight jellies, maybe you can ask someone to watch together with you which raises your relationship with them. Just to make the festival more interactive.
- For the stardew valley fair, just make the prizes that could be exchanged for different each year to give us a reason to actually go later in the game
- For spirit's eve, maybe this could also be done like the luau but instead you bring an actual dish to share which raises your relationship with the townspeople. Maybe a costume party could also be done since they implemented clothing in the latest version. You get a reward for going to the festival wearing a specific set of clothes each year.
