Question regarding Mailed in Recipes

I've Googled and looked thru here and Reddit, can't find the exact answer.

So when townsfolk mail in recipes to my mailbox, do I just open the letter to read it & automatically learn the recipe? Or do I have do 'click' on the letter, or do anything aside from just opening it?

I ask cause I read an old comment where this dude said he missed out on all his letter recipes because he didn't 'click' on the letters after opening them to actually learn the recipe, so now I'm scared I've been doing the same this whole time

I don't think you actually need to click on the letter to get the recipe.

If you are collecting recipes through mail, keep in mind:

For villagers that send you more than 1x cooking recipe, NEVER max their friendship in one go!

Ex Leo.

If you do, they send only the first recipe and never the other one, even if you manually lower friendship and raise it anew.

Okay that's what I thought, the comment I read was a 3 year old cmnt on a Steam forum so maybe you used to have to click them? Or maybe different console/ system. I dunno I just got worries I missed out on several recipes, I just hardly started cooking

Do not max somebody's friendship, with reepeated use of loved gifts + stardrop tea (you can gift more than once) and/or other means.

Those who send more than 1 "friendship-unlocked" cooking recipes, get bugged, in that case!

Raise their friendship over time and not instantaneously!

Hah. I never knew that. But I have bad “birthday awareness”, and I usually hoard Stardrop Tea under the “too cool to use” fallacy. So I’ve always raised friendships slow. Not glacial. But slow.

Ohhh okay, cool thanks for explaining that to me :) yeah I usually don't bum-rush people into friendship so hopefully I haven't done this without knowing

You can get the recipe from checking the mailbox

That's a glitch and possibly is already patched if it wasn't a use specific issue/issue with stardrop tea to begin with

Raising friendship all at once works perfectly fine for getting recipes, you just get one per night from any given npc
