Is stardew predictor considered to be a cheat?

Only recently, i got acquainted with this cute, little marvel! My world seed was very strange this time round, so i was actually "forced" to examine and consult it thoroughly, for various "predictions".

Although, i cannot help but wonder. Is it a technically a "cheat", or not???

I think it's personal opinion but I treat it as a cheat as it tells you some of your future so you can plan for it. I will change my gameplay if I know how or when a certain item or event will happen so I would now be "optimizing" (as little as I do) towards those key events.

On the other hand, some people may prefer to play knowing how some events happen so they can tailor those parts of their game experience more towards their liking. If that makes them happier then 100% do it!

Do what makes you happy.

I've used it a couple of times before, I don't really care that much. I use it for small things like the always elusive garbage hat OR to check the geodes if I only need one thing to finish the museum and I got tired of searching.

As Lew Zealand said, it's personal preference, as the definition of cheating can be subjective.

I've never use it myself, but I don't think of it as cheating as it's only showing you what is eventually going to happen naturally. To my knowledge, it's not altering or changing anything really.

And, as always, what you do yourself in your single player games is up to you entirely. Games are supposed to be fun for you. So if using a predictor enhances that fun, more power to you! I guess you could think of it along the same lines as the profit margin reduction option during character creation. It's there for certain players to increase their enjoyment by making things more 'difficult'.

I'll preface that I'm someone who uses a lot of external tools, personally save reading, seed finding tools, altering saves, etc. so I have a fair bit of experience with this type of stuff.

I'm absolutely echoing the sentiment that it's personal preference, whatever you feel like is 'cheating' or fair use in your own saves. I personally allow the use of basically any tool on unrestricted files, but also sometimes have files where I avoid it all which are plenty fun in their own right. In singleplayer anything is free game, though for some actions you should probably tell people what you used so that they can understand/it makes sense.

I will say, there are a couple scenarios where they could be considered cheating, basically anytime you shift from singleplayer to any sort of comparisons or competition.
1. Speedrunning, if you want to speedrun and properly compare times/submit times to the leaderboards, there are strict (but few in number) rules you have to follow, of which the banning of external tools or restriction to separate categories is the norm.
2. When playing with others, keep your use of the tools open, I'm not saying they aren't allowed, that's up to you all as it's up to you on a singleplayer save, just be genuine about using them and consider not if they don't want you to, you are a collective in multiplayer.

Otherwise go at it, and draw the line where you want. That could mean using all, some, or no tools at all, and that's fine, whatever results in the most fun for yourself.
