Switch Trinkets downgrading

So it wasn't only me, then. I've had the same thing happening to me on my main save.

A void frog egg that I'd been so proud of, suddenly shows up as a red frog, all the while the description still reads it as a void frog egg while my fairy trinket that was also formerly a level 5, not only got downgraded to level 2 but looks different as well.

Much like with the void frog, I'd been so happy with my fairy on that save since she resembled my character and reminded me of Tinkerbell. I was honestly on the verge of tears when I first opened that save and noticed those changes. 😭
I also wanted to cry about my fairy box!! I forged it back up to level 4, but am too scared to try for 5 again until I have an extra.

Yes, no spoilers but there are other colors too. I got lucky and only had to re-forge a few times to get another void froggie and one more fun color.
Oh, I’m fully spoiled. I’ve been playing for about 5 years. My wife and I had only gotten the same three colors in both of our saves. We just figured the other ones were bugged out on switch.

I haven't even touched the save in question ever since I first realized and "rage quit" my game that time due to having been too upset and, tbh, scared.

You should wait for sure!!! That sounds like the best idea. Better to have backup, just in case. Getting them all the way up to level 5 is such a pain. 😭

Fingers crossed that ConcernedApe and his team who work on console updates fix this.

Thanks for this info! So do we expect them to keep this new frog colors, fairy etc.? My initial reservation in not touching my Void, Prismatic Frogs etc. is so I want to avoid this ended up getting treated as a "bug" and then this current randomization is rolled back to restore the old colors for Frogs and Fairies only. If CA and dev are willing to accept this change as a one-time occurrence with no intention of rolling it back to the older colors - I will proceed with rerolling my frogs to Void, Prismatic for the current randomization then!
Hey all! Just wanted to pop in and verify that this is indeed expected (unfortunately), as part of the fix for the bad luck streaks on Switch. It's the last platform to have this change, and was needed to fix the rain and other luck based issues & match how it works on PC, mobile, and all other consoles.

To answer this question, after this patch, it should not change again, so you should be safe to reroll any trinkets now and expect that it will be final.

Losing Tinkerbell broke me, ngl. We're in this together, friend!!! 😩 🙏🏽

Then, when I played again yesterday and went on more dungeon dives, I finally found some more frog eggs.

I hadn't touched my void frog egg and simply left it in a chest, made the mistake, as I only know now, to place my newly acquired red frog egg into that same chest - the void frog egg having newly been displayed as that same color when put into the trinket slot- then, boom, the next thing I know, I officially got two red frog eggs, no void frog egg in sight anymore. 😭 💔

One of my first trinkets was a level 5 pink fairy. Playing on switch the raccoon shop wasn't working right. Eager to get the latest update, only to find my fairy companion is now wearing black and a level 1. We are both in mourning. But whatever. Now the raccoon shop works right and I can get that jungle tank. That's how we star"do"?

Oh god. It's truly a dark era for us trinket holders😭:frog: RIP void frog...

This is happening to me on xbox too - I organized a chest with trinkets sorted by highest to lowest. I leave, come back, and they are all different. When I choose the lowest levels to go sell to the old dudes near the mine, I check to make sure they are level 1s in my backpack, and they are all different levels suddenly. Like they reroll every time you touch or move them.

I found this out when I came to terms of losing my level 5 fairy I had with me.
I moved a level 4 from the chest and when it was in inventory, it turned to level 3.
I rage quit immediately. My Perfection file and now I don't even want to touch it T_T

Unfortunately, this is not a bug. All trinkets obtained prior to the patch (the December 24 patch on Xbox, and the January 17 patch on Switch) were unavoidably re-rolled. However, trinkets stored inside chests before the patch will not visually update until they are placed in you inventory (or occasionally when indirectly interacted with by changing the chest's contents). This can make it look like they are being actively re-rolled again, but it should only happen once to a given trinket, and should only happen to trinkets obtained prior to the patch.

If that isn't the case, and newly obtained trinkets are also still being re-rolled, then please let me know so I can notify the porting team of a possible bug. Really sorry for the inconvenience and frustration this change caused, and thanks for continuing to report issues as they pop up.

So, what is the best way to check? Take all saved trinkets out of chests into backpack, and then put them back, then check again, and move back into backpack?

I went from chest, to backpack, to selling at the adventurers guild, and it looked like they changed between chest>backpack, and again from backpack>adventurers guild.

At this point I just need some instruction I think?

Thanks

I'm not really sure, I would try the chest to inventory and back to chest thing to see. It's always possible that there's another issue with the adventurers guild, so let me know if that seems consistent.

The most important thing is that any newly obtained trinkets should never change. If you know a trinket was obtained after the patch, but it still changes, that would definitely be a bug.

I’m heartbroken. I’ve only just reopened my main save to find my pink/purple fairy replaced with white/yellow. I’ve not only lost my original fairy but I’ve lost trinket levels and colours that I worked really hard to get. They’ve been demoted to random levels, not even just by one, they’re all random.

I get that more problems can arise but this is so crushing. I just want my fairy back and my original levels. It’s not fair for anyone involved who’s spent a lot of resources / loves certain colours. Is there any way to resolve this?

Short of starting new save files until you get the fairy that is the color combo you like, it doesn't sound like it. Trinket levels should only reroll once, but they've said it was a necessary thing in order to correct other RNG elements in the game.

Maybe CA will add an option to pick your fairy color in the future, but I wouldn't count on it any time soon.

There's no way to resolve it. I'm sorry, I know it's not fair.

It is our fault as developers. We released an initial console port that handles randomness differently from all the other platforms, causing issues with rain, shops, item drops, and so many more unforeseen consequences.

This left a lose-lose decision. We could leave things as is, and the resulting random bugs and issues would permanently plague the game. Or, we could fix the original mistake, which would temporarily break green rain on some saves & permanently re-roll all trinkets/fairies/etc.

Neither choice would be fair to players. We could only try and choose what would be better for everyone in the long term. Undoing that now, a month after the patch, would re-roll everyone's trinkets again, and reintroduce all the problems that came with it. There's nothing more we can really do at this point.

This isn't a justification. We should not have made the mistake in the first place, and I'm really sorry for that. I know everyone on the dev team is working their hardest to make the game as good as it can be, and the console launch did not go as well as we'd wanted, despite our best efforts. We're trying to address all the issues that we can for now, and will work to do better in the future.

I can appreciate that, it’s just crushing really. I know eventually I’ll get over having to regain my resources to reroll.. could there be an option to pick/change your fairy colour in the future? I know some probably don’t care but myself, others on this thread and others on different socials are pretty upset about the fairy changing colour. I think that would be a really nice compromise?

Before the patch I had a level 4,3,2 fairy in my chest. Now they’re 2,2,1. Even when I put them into my inventory, it still stays the same 2,2,1.

I seem to be constantly getting 2s & 1s when rerolling. Has the alterations made it more likely to get higher numbers? I used almost 100 bars and I didn’t get a single fairy above 2, I felt this way too even before the patch.

I can ask if changing fairy color somehow is something that CA would be interested in adding. It wouldn't be any time soon if so, but I'll definitely bring it up!

As for the re-rolling odds, I believe the most recent patch would affect bad luck streaks when re-rolling trinkets, so in theory it may be more likely to get higher numbers.
