Age of the villagers

One theory I'd heard is that Sebastian may have spent his younger life with his biological father. I think it may explain some of the family dynamic - Demetrius stayed hands-off with his stepson as neither of them viewed each other as "real" father and son, then when Sebastian came to live with them for whatever reason, it's now a very awkward situation all around. And, of course, if the house was originally built for three people, I can see a young teenage Sebastian agreeing/volunteering to take the basement room as it offers space away from other people, and he might have seen it as a temporary arrangement. He thought, hey, he can have his cool goth hangout for a few years, then he'd go back to Zuzu City for college and/or a job. (I am assuming the regret that he doesn't have a window set in later.) Who knows, maybe he was more distant with Robin when he moved in and he "didn't want to impose." Then now that they are closer (her pumpkin soup has grown on him, okay?), he still feels awkward asking.

I kind of like that we get these sketched outlines which let us come up with our own lore.

Anyway, that got really off track, but I meant to explain that I think this would also help explain how Sebastian and Maru could be very close in age while not being close as half-siblings. They read as being no more than a year or two apart to me.

I like that, too.

And I am definitely adopting that headcanon. While it still doesn't make Robin and Demetrius good parents, it makes them significantly less bad. Every time Robin talks about how she buit their house and how proud she is of it, I always wonder if she forgot she had two kids when she did it. Him living with his dad would explain why the house is customized for Robin, Demetrius, and Maru, but Sebastian is living in a basement that can't legally be called a bedroom in the US (due to the lack of a window). Or why Sebastian can tell you what gifts would make Maru happy for no reason other than to make her happy, only for you turn around and have Maru comment that she wants a real brother but doesn't know if Sebastian likes her or not. Apparently, Robin forgot to give Maru the same heads up about her son being shy that gives the farmer.

It also works/helps with some of Sebastian's spouse dialogue.

I would definitely have to agree with most of your guesses! Personally, I’ve always thought Jodi and Kent to be a bit older- Possibly early 40s- Considering that it’s shown Kent has gone to war, and the average age of a veteran in the United States (For simplicity’s sake I’m going to assume Stardew Valley is set in the US) is around that. Plus, with Sam (presumably) being 20, it would make sense that Jodi had him at about 25, making her 45. This is all guesswork, mind you. Otherwise, I completely agree!

I think Leo is the same age as Jas and Vincient is a year or two younger.

Maru is a nurse and lab assistant, so I put her in her early-to-mid-twenties. Sebastian has some dialogue if you have two children that suggest the age difference between him and Maru is about the same as his and the farmer's children, which is hard to guess with the weird aging/growing, but I'd put at only a year or two. I figure Sam, Abagail, and Penny are the same age as Sebastian.

Alex and Haley, I put younger. They're both adults, but in thier late teens or twenty-one at most.

Emily, Clint, Leah, Elliot, and Shane, I figure are in thier early thirties. Harvey and Gus, I put mid to late thirties.

I assume the parents of the other singles are in their fourties.

Willy, Marnie, and Gunther, I put in their fifties.

Lewis and Linus, I put in their sixties.

Evelyn and George, I put in their seventies.

No idea about the wizard.

Emily and Sandy are close friends and their dialogue indicates that they grew up together in Stardew Valley, so I would think they are also close in age. Alex and Haley hang out together before the farmer comes in to (maybe) break them up, so I would think it's unlikely that Haley's much or at all older than Alex. (They both seem very immature, as well, at least at the start of the game.) Similarly with Sam and Penny, it's not likely a skateboarding kid is going to hang out with a 30 year old woman or vice versa. Penny, like Jas and Maru, is just very very precocious. Or maybe Sam is a lot older than he acts.

Also, I always feel like Seb's like 20, and then conveniently forget about Maru. In my head she's like five years younger than him, which would age him up to at least 23 (that's assuming Maru's 18, which is still pretty young). But then he hangs with Abby and Sam, who are def 19/20, soooo...

...There are only a few 'older' bachelors in town, and none of them are perfect! Harveyis really anxious and weak, but I know he would make a loyal and devoted husband. He likes coffee and pickles.

Elliott is a bit foppish and melodramatic, but he does have a nice chin. He likes crab cakes and pomegranates.

Shane is messy and anti-social. But I think his gruff exterior is a defense mechanism, insulating his softness from the world. He likes Beer, Pizza, and Pepper Poppers.

Yes, Maru and Sebastian are both Robin’s children, but only Maru is Demetrius child. So it’s fair to assume she is a couple of years younger.

As much as part of me want an authoritative answer so I can know if I was “right”, it is nice that you can headcanon just about anything with enough mental gymnastics.

• We know for sure Maru and Sebastian have different fathers, and that Sebastian is older. But you’re free to decide if there’s a five year gap between them or only a one year gap between them.
• Harvey tells George he studied Medicine for eight years, so if he just got his medical degree, he could be late twenties. Although he does join the aerobics class and mentions it’s getting harder to stay in shape, so 30’s to early 40’s is more plausible to me.
• For Harvey not to completely creep himself out over his interest in Maru, I’d hope he’s not twice her age. So I mentally put Harvey no later than 32, Maru at 24, and Sebastian at 26.
• Abigail and Sam I put around 21 each, college age but not quite in the working world. They likely bonded with Sebastian over tabletop games, and musical interests.
• Penny I see around 23. Old enough to become a first year teacher, but only just. This also puts her right around Maru’s age, making it easier for them to have been best friends growing up.
