What do yall name your animals

It really depends on my mood.

Some saves I just pick the best sounding auto-names lol.

Other ones I named them after a theme I was going after for the whole farm (Was going for a Kubera-inspired theme with mushrooms everywhere and the animals are just named after Suras with similar clan characteristics)

Another save, I just give names that felt right at the time, no theme or relations.

Currently for Lil Quackers farm I'm going a bit personal and giving them original names with the same first letter (Cows all have M- names, Blue Chickens all have B- names, Void Chickens all have V- names, Pigs all have C- names), since this Meadowlands save dedicates the farmer to animal raising.

I used to do this thing where all my cows had names in alphabetical order starting with Bess that were four letters long - one of the old gameboy Harvest Moon games only gave you four letters. This is why I sometimes have a cow named Cloe, even though I don't have a character restriction anymore.

For a few games I have named my rabbits after IRL rabbits I have had - I do a lot of fostering and rescue, so I have a LOT of rabbit names at my disposal. Except then I'd forget which names I had already used, which was embarrassing, so I stopped.

My latest farm is all scientific and everything. The cat is Felis, the dog is Canis, the horse is Equus, and the rabbits all use the periodic table of elements for their names. I'm up to Krypton. (The other coop animals and all the barn animals all have random names, although since I only have one goat and one pig, I could rename them Capra and Sus respectively.)

In the past, I've named my animals after characters from other games or shows, or just whatever I think sounds good at the time. This has led to some pretty inconsistent names. (In my old save, most of my animals are named after Smile for Me characters, since that's what I was playing around the time that I got a lot of my animals, but my sheep are named after Shaun the Sheep characters. I also have a rabbit named Rice Pilaf, and I can't fathom what that one was meant to be a reference to.) In my new save, since I have a theme in mind I might do something based off of that, or I might continue naming them after existing sets of characters. Who knows.

I have two cows, one is Chicken Leg and the other is Pencil. I have a goat named Goat. White chicken names Wapa, void chicken named Garbanzo, and a bunny named booty. Dog named Scratch, cat named Smelly. Very creative, I know.

I used to use different abbreviations of Elizabeth that had a maximum of four letters - so my cows would be Bess, Beth, Liz, Elli etc.

Now, I sometimes use a theme, but the more animals I get, the less I follow through so mostly they end up with auto-generated names. The generator has a few names that end in -bella and usually those go to my rabbits.

Trixie's been naming coop creatures for moons of Jupiter, goats for car parts manufacturers, and cows for cheeses. The Ostriches are Thing n, and her pig's name is Snowball.

All of Paddy's rabbits are getting their names from Watership Down, the Dinosaurs are Venus (egg from a fishing chest) and Hephestia (egg from Skull Cavern). The void chicken is named Vanta (witch event egg) and the white chicken is named Bobo (egg from the raccoons). The Ostriches are Karka (Hebrew for ground, because this egg was dug up from the secret note) and Arona (Feminization of Aron, the Hebrew word for "chest" because this egg came from the tenth floor rare chest when Paddy first reached the Caldera).

I have something like 200-300 chickens named "Chicken" (you can get duplicate names by renaming or by naming from the hatching menu)

After that I just gave up and started using the autogenerated names for all the chickens, it just wasn't worth it lol.

I don't know when it started but I also always name my pigs with the same naming scheme, something-orto
Brorto, Hrorto, Lorto, and so on, I've probably been doing it since 1.0 or something, it's basically tradition at this point.
