Questions for ginger island on switch

First of, I must say that you learn most of these through finding the lost notes when digging spots and foraging/fishing on the island.

1. It's based off the location of the bird on the island and the gem it's associated to. If you find an aquamarine gem bird on island North, you get to place an aquamarine on the upper altar, so on and so forth acording to the cardinal directions.
2. The size of the stones on the tile tells you the tuning. Big stone = 5 clicks of tuning and small stone = 1 click of tuning. If you get one big stone and two small stones on one tile, it equals to 7 clicks of tuning, for example.
3. The leaking water pipe at the entrance teaches you that you have to use your watering can to bridge over the lava.
4. Inside of the volcano. Picking up the stuff on the ground, mining nodes or killing enemies.

I've tried brute forcing the gems without any bird hints and trust me ain't no fun lol. But at some point the sunk cost fallacy is just too much so I had to find a calculator to list me all the combos and try them one by one... all so I can get some walnuts earlier...
I think RoseNoire summarized it well but to elaborate on the response, if you are just seeing the Volcano for the first time but too frail to work through the whole dungeon, then what I do is check out the entrance (sometimes there are 1-2 of those monsters swimming in the lava), and only defeat those. They drop those fairly often and you don't have to risk dying or engage in much of any combat if you dislike that. It sounds like you plan to go through the whole thing though since you want to unlock the door.

For anyone wanting to brute force it themselves, it's like 124 possibilities or something. As soon as you find even a single gem though, that's massive cut down, and knowing just 1 or 2 makes it much more reasonable to bother forcing.

That's it haha I think 5P4 = 120.
For info: 5P3 = 60, 5P2 = 20, 5P1 = 5 and of course if all the birds are found, it's a single try!
Definitely don't recommend but it's a one-time stubbornness to try to speedrun unlocking Qi room as quick as possible in in-game year (Still came out to be like Fall Y1 with Community Center route [lots of duping and resetting the day]).

The first time I ever went to ginger island all I knew was that it took 4 of main gems, just randomly put them in and got it right away, was so confused why people complained about needing to wait for it until I realized that it was a fluke

You're right for brute force with no info, but if you have one gem, it's 4P3 not 5P3, so there are 24 options
And if you have two gems is 3P2= 6 options
And if you have three gems you have 2P1 = 2 options

Ah thanks for correcting my math haha - that sounds more correct! At 2 remaining, there should really only be two guesses - either this way or that way - makes sense!
