Ghostfish in fish pond

Can one ghostfish in a fishpond produce a quartz? Edit: OK the answer is no, I misread the Wiki. Three gohstfish are needed for quartz.

The wiki says that one ghostfish can produce roe (verified) and that 1-3 ghostfish can produce quartz. I assume that two or three ghostfish can produce quartz, but what about one? I ran a test with one ghostfish and got 15 roe in total but no quartz. The catch is that quartz is need to raise the population above one.

I thought I'd do a play through "complete the community centre without going down the mines" but I need a quartz for the geologist bundle. This is the only thing I am missing and it is not available from the travelling cart or treasure chests either.

I think you can get geodes from fishing chests and quartz from geodes. So it's theoretically possible in the way that winning the powerball is theoretically possible, but you would have a long grind.

Quartz doesn't occur in geodes. On my save anyway. None show using the predictor.
Yup, no quartz in geodes. I think it's an oversight, since you can get every other mineral plus some other things. I remember running into almost the same issue ages ago when looking at possible challenge runs. Foraged in the mines, found in garbage cans (tiny chance), or dropped by Stone Golems seems to be the only ways to find them. (edit: also found in mine crates/barrels.)

Can Stone Golems spawn on the farm if monsters are on? Although unless you start with monsters on that's not going to help in this scenario since you'd have to get to the witch's hut which is post-community center...

It's the quarry mine, not the quarry, just to be clear. Or you could go into the skull caverns during the Desert Festival.

Stone golems don't spawn on the farm, only wilderness golems (also iridium golems only if you are on the wilderness farm).

Thanks everyone for the information.

I don't mind checking the the travelling cart twice a week, but I'm not sure I want to check all the garbage cans in town every day. Maybe I have come to the end of this playthrough.

I think quartz might occur randomly in any of the garbage cans.

On a positive note, by the time I find a quartz I should have enough money to buy all the golden walnuts and probably perfection as well!

Linus' secret note implies a higher frequency of minerals at Clint's
According to the wiki, his garbage can drops metal ores in addition to the regular pool, and quartz can be found in any garbage can.

I’d focus on high luck days. If you haven’t yet, get the Alleyway Buffet book (if you manage to upgrade your tools).

The predictor can predict garbage cans. It assumes worsed luck, but you can change the value according to the instructions (I’ve never tried that). I think with higher luck you might get different contents, but still the same cans would yield something.

Well, I am surprised. I didn't use the predictor. On Summer 14 year 2 I found one in the mayor's garbage can. I do have a good luck ring and I have read the Alleyway Buffet.

Thank you Maher for suggesting the garbage cans!

For anyone interested in garbage cans, the predictor shows nothing at all for Year 2 Summer 14 when run on a Year 1 Winter 17 save. I did not have the good luck ring, did not have the special luck charm, and had not read Alleyway Buffet at that time.
