I've played for 300 hours and this is the first time monsters drop prismatic shard. Is there any other condition except getting to level 120?

Some monsters inherently have a chance to drop prismatic shards, take the shadow brute for example which has a natural 0.05 (1/2000) chance to drop a shard
Every monster (in or out of the mines), gains a 0.05% (1/2000) to drop a shard when you hit level 120 of the mines. For monsters which already have that aforementioned inherent drop chance, it's added (not literally but from a practical sense they may as well).
The only difference in these chances is that the floor 120 chance isn't rerolled by the burglar ring, while the chance from monsters with it inherently is rerolled. This means that if you're hunting for a prismatic shard from shadow brutes after hitting floor 120, you'' have the 0.05% chance from floor 120, as well as a 0.05% chance inherently, but that will be rerolled, effectively giving you a practical 0.15% (1/667) chance for a prismatic shard. A rather trivial fact but might come in useful if you decide to farm monsters for a shard (it means that you're better off hunting for monsters with an inherent chance even if you can kill more than 2x the number of monsters that only have the floor 120 chance).

it's real!!! I got like 50% of my prismatic shard from monster drops.
let me list all the monsters I remembered dropping it:

- bat around level 40-50 mine (got more than once!)
- shadow brute in mine
- shadow shaman in mine during dangerous mode
- slime in mine (I forget which level)
- mummy in skull cavern
- haunted skull in quarry mine

I get 2 shard today and both are dropped from volcano monsters.
