Anyone knows all the conditions for a Farm Animal to become adult?

I am trying to keep a few baby animals on the farm because I find them cute (yeah not very ethical... but), but they keep growing up.

I don't know if there is a list of all the conditions that foster growth. I thought it should simply be that on days that are not fed, they will never grow, so I tried to remove all those factors:
- Married partners
- Grass (and also their doors are shut)
- Hay (do these randomly get stockpiled themselves without my doing?)

I can't really figure out what else is making them grow up. But I will be on the look out the next time they grow up again, and see what happened. If anyone can chime in, I would be forever grateful.

Fully upgraded Coops (Deluxe Coops) have autofeed system from Silos, so if your chicks are in there, they will get autofeed.

Annd.. I also did a little testing since I'm curious... In my Meadowland Farm, I slept through 7 Days and didn't feed them, and my chicks didn't grow. So yep, feeding them for three days make them mature.

So if you want them to stay baby, place them in a non-upgraded Coop and don't feed them.

Ah I forgot to mention, they are indeed in the very basic barns and coops. I have made sure of that as well. I'm beginning to suspect that they will auto-adult at the start of a new season. But I will need to do more stringent testing. By 2 Summer, I saw all my babies became adults, I will try again this Fall.

This is on the Switch by the way, and if any behaviors are different than PC, it may be a potential bug.

Actually I took a closer look at my animal roster - It was just the Blue Chicken, Brown Chicken, Gold Chicken, 2 Void Chickens, White Chicken that turned adults.

The baby ducks at the same coop, and other animals in other barns and coops have not yet turned, so that theory proves to be false. I'm not really sure what's going on, not even a theory.

Ah I'm on Mobile, though I don't think it's that different, 'cuz I continued my test file... And yep, they indeed will auto-adult after one season.

Time can't be stopped from aging everyone, except maybe everyone outside the Farm, no one grows old in that town 😂

Mm well Chickens are fastest animals to mature (3 days), so maybe that's why they matured first..? Maybe the others will auto-adult maybe in 2 or so seasons, depends how long they mature...

To be frank, I have no idea haha - I was scouring through the Wiki to make sure I understood the mechanics correctly but this eludes me. I'm gonna canonize your observation that no one in the valley grows old and conclude that they are secretly transferring their ageing to my farm animals to preserve their eternal youth.

You are probably right in the sense that something is feeding them occasionally and since chickens grow the fastest they mature first!

To grow up a farm animal only has to eat for whatever x amount of nights it takes that specific type of animal to grow up. The shortest amount of time is a chicken with 3 nights, and the longest is pigs with 10 nights to grow, all others are between that spectrum (technically dinos have no baby stage but they're also kind of permanently babies so I don't consider them really)

It's impossible to keep animals as babies because they get automatically fed on most festival days (basically any besides the night fest, desert fest, and mini festivals), so most animals will only stay as babies if constantly starved for half the year, with something like a pig lasting for around a year.

I had no idea that animal growth was attached to anything other than time. 😄
When you are a responsible farmer, everything just works out the way you wanted - happy chickens, good produce.
When you start to become a bit evil then you gotta be creative with some shenanigans :smug:
But not anymore, we are going to make everyone happy now.

I remember it took me forever to first work out the range when Iridium Egg and Iridium Milk become possible. There is such a small window without Coopmaster and Shepherd!

I kinda did similar tomfoolery at the beginning haha.
I kept putting Hays in the Hay Hopper manually, thinking: "Okay, I've stocked these bad guys up, the animals will be fed", but it was actually quite the opposite!
I was supposed to take Hays out of the Hay Hopper and then manually put them on the Feeding Bench.

Sorry guys, just a city guy doing not-so-city things.

I'm much more disturbed that some barns/coops are just a random color :pig: I'm assuming it's to track what's in which barns/coops?
Who said Meadowlands is meta for animal raising, we must cram everybody in using Standard Farm!

If you want to be technical about it, I think the beach farm has more space, so it could probably fit more buildings.
