What features would you want to see in "last update"?

Let's assume the last patch for the game wouldn't be a normal new content patch but a sort of maintenance/replayability patch. What features would you want to see in such a patch?

For me it would be things like:
  • option to use different sizes of some buildings (fish ponds, but also the size of the insides of the greenhouse, etc.)
  • remix the game focusing around selected skills (like fishing/foraging with much much less farming, improving some fishing/foraging drops?)
  • options to enable more features for farms when starting a new game (force a constant season on the farm, enable/disable special soil like the beach one, add some new ones like "forest soil" good for foraged plants and wild trees, etc., what fish and % are available on the farm, foraging spawns and %, starter pack)
  • option to reorder some content release timing (delay mines opening, put panning before mining, etc.), maybe disable some content for reasons, or disable prismatic shards that then disable the best weapons :)
  • option to start with a tent instead of a house (to then build a house, or buy a farm, build a house, while having a semi-mobile tent and no farm before; Linus mode).

1) More romance-able NPCs... (Sandy! Clint!)

2) Less illogical and abstract help quests. Some sentences are downright hilarious, out of context and make no sense at all (rub on knees x item, ask first season days for a crop which needs days to grow etc).

3) Trees on your farm to stop spreading seeds, if you surround them with flooring/walking path (my design doesn't include 2 or even 3 layers of the stuff, i need to construct 1 only).

4) Heavy Tappers to be sold for Qi gems. I do not even want to remember what hellish chinese farming sessions i went through, in order to equip one, on 140 trees!

5) All rare items (especially decorative ones), once acquired, to be sold from vendors/sources later (much like crystal chair and rarecrows). Similarly, clothes. In my previous save i trashed Work Boots, thinking i would find them again, due to lack of inventory space; it would be nice for Guild to sell them, post me acquiring them once...

6) Hoppers to not occupy one item spot, but be fused with the machine, exactly as enrichers/pressure nozzles do with sprinklers.

7) More gifts. 2 per week could be 1 per day.

Customizable Clothing and Hairstyles. 4 different Seasonal outfits for all Villagers. Ability to gift or sell seasonal clothing to Villagers and they'll wear it on occasion. Especially weather-related occasions like Penny wearing a warm coat when it's snowing or Seb wearing a parka on rainy days when he's out looking for frogs. The Clothing would be tagged for preferred season and weather conditions when you design it.

i want to see a exspansion of sorts for seeing and running a farm shop in zuzu city, I also think lewis should give us land so we can build our own store like in story of seasons ds, a farm store in ginger island and we can get a 3rd farm in the fern islands where our dear old dad and mom lives in a retirement bungalow, that would be awesome, also more % of fishing on all farm maps and less trash, not to mention taking all 8 and I mean 8 maps and making a super fusion farm map a ultimate farm map that would be awesome, I put in 700 hours so I always think how could this game get any better.

1) If the Farmer's wedding date falls on a rainy day, then the ceremony would be held at the back of Pierre's store near the shrine of Yoba and the day would still be rainy.
2) A toggle option for placing items such as Kegs or Flower Pots which if on, will actually try to place the item in the spot that the player indicates with the cursor when the mouse button is pressed and if that spot is unfeasible, then the player would see an "error message" with a red X in a message bubble at the bottom left corner of the screen stating "You are too far away to place it there" with the item NOT being placed as opposed to the game trying to place the item at a "random" spot where the farmer can actually place it based on where (s)he is currently standing. Such an option could prevent headaches of having to waste energy pickaxing Kegs or other items that were accidentally placed in the wrong spot or worse yet, having to pickaxe (and thereby totally waste) crop seeds (potentially Starfruit or Ancient Fruit seeds) that were accidentally placed in a spot that cannot be reached by a sprinkler.
3) An option to purchase a permanent 3rd option for new weekly Qi Quests in Qi's Ginger Island Room. This would greatly reduce the frustrations of certain Qi Quests never showing up for entire seasons on end! --- AND/OR ---
4) For a certain amount of Qi Gems, it would be possible to re-roll the Qi Quests with all the Quests guaranteed to be different on the re-roll with re-rolls only being available for purchase once per week.

I loved your suggestions, and I have stories to share about this one. I'm trying to place one on 170 different trees in my current game. Version 1.6 made things easier in that regard. For the Radioactive Ore, I like to hang out in the Dangerous Skull Caverns which can be permanently activated once the Skull Cavern Invasion Quest is completed for the first time. Those Heavy Furnaces can greatly help save on Coal and time needed to make those Radioactive Bars. As for the Hardwood, Floors 40-69 of the Dangerous Mines are a GREAT place to grind for Hardwood.

In my previous game which was based in version 1.5.6, I remember always accepting Qi's Skull Cavern Invasion Quest when it was available (one time, it was for 4 consecutive weeks :toothy:) and keeping it active for as long as I could and completing it officially on a Sunday, even if it meant always leaving the Caverns at level 99 (if I got that far) and then starting back at level 1 while avoiding jumping down holes after level 84 if I were in the Caverns during any Monday-Saturday, all for the purpose of mining as much Radioactive Ore as I could for the entire week! I eventually did manage to put Heavy Tappers on 100 Oak Trees but not before at least 5 weeks' worth of trips to the Dangerous Skull Caverns!

You don't need to keep the quest active, since post completing it, you can activate the altar to make them "dangerous" at will, outside of quest duration.

I myself prefer the dangerous mines, because there is elevator. On lucky days, with food buffs maxed, i could find even 4 nodes in the same level (used to enter 100+ with elevator, exit -> reenter etc) and because dangerous Skull cavern enemies are tougher, plus more swarming on you.

For Hardwood, i found out that doing plantations of it in railroad is best, complete with fertilizer. I now amass piles of x999 of those, in advance! You only need to avoid the Green Rain, though (and fall turning them into barren trees). Even in winter you can plant, grow and cut them up nicely! This run round, i will have only the ore to worry about. Still, as tough as they come.

Yes indeed. That is a great feature in 1.6+. However, pre-1.6 (like my last save), there was no "altar" to toggle "Dangerous mode", so the only way to keep Dangerous Skull Caverns open would have been to accept the quest, then avoid getting to Floor 100 until Sunday. Once Floor 100 had been reached, then Skull Caverns would have permanently reverted to normal mode until the player had accepted the Skull Cavern Invasion quest again.

I had never even thought of entering and re-entering Floor 100+. That may have been helpful in v1.5.6, especially since Mines (but not Skull Caverns) could have been made permanently Dangerous then.

I actually did this in my previous 1.5.6 save, except it was a 3x9 grid of 27 Mahogany Trees on my farm.

I am finding each update adds more and more, which is fun, but also gets overwhelming and sometimes feels like it's changing the essence of the game.
I first started playing 1.3, and of course I was excited for 1.4, which added the four corners farm, fish ponds, and tailoring. I wouldn't want any of those new features removed. Similarly, I was excited for 1.5, with the beach farm, Ginger Island, remixed bundles, Ginger Island. I love the horse flute and the Qi quests, especially Qi's kindness.
But, there aren't more new features I want added. I'm sure I will enjoy any new things that come out, and I haven't played 1.6 yet.
Actually, I'd like a chance to play the original. I suggested a long time ago a simplified version that could be sorta a Stardew Valley Lite. Maybe no one would be that into it, but I'd love a re-release of the original! Maybe it could be called Stardew Valley Classic.

Big time yes to number 1. The older singles deserve love and I’m not dating a teenager at 42! Reminds me of olden days where once someone reached a certain age they were considered old maids and unfit for marriage.

I think it would be cool if your own character got a portrait when talking, just like the npc's portrait when they talk. also if you could get some rare shirt that was 100 percent customizable that would be fun. OH I KNOW THEY SHOULD ADD AN EASTER EGG WHERE YOU CAN TALK TO CONCERNED APE DUDE THAT WOULD BE AWESOME. anyway...

It'd be kinda cool if you could set which version of the game you wanted to play. Or maybe toggle off certain features at farm start? That'd be kinda cool

If you have steam you can switch to 1.5. But
Many here don’t have that and not sure how long that option will last. I still mis 1.4 when everyone lived in Stardew all the time and weren’t all fleeing for the island. Though I would totally miss Leo he’s the sweetest cutest kid he made. I love how it really expanded Linus’ role in the valley too. So yeah that I would miss a lot. I have mobile (well honestly got steam version for 1.6 as a birthday present and hubby made a makeshift computer for me too!) but mobile is easiest for my hands that stiffen and ache with a mouse versus a iPad and pencil. Plus I can take it to doctors and hospitals and all right now. I’m super stoked that CA is releasing mobile just in time for my cancer radiation and hopeful quick recovery! 🥰

It would be absoultley cool! Don't know if it would be possible coding wise but I know nothing about code so I may be incorrect
Unfortunately the codebase has been continually updated with each version so choosing only the features of a previous version would be an insurmountable task, if not impossible without rewriting much of the earlier versions of the game. Remember that v1.6 started as a modding update, changing the code of the game to make it easier to mod, so yeah that will remain a very sweet and unobtainable dream.

That said, I don't see why we couldn't have a version selector like @stardew_luv mentioned Steam has where you can still play v1.5.6. But have the same for v1.4.5 and 1.3.37 and so on. Wait did 1.3 stop at 1.3.37??

Noooo!! It stopped at 1.3.36! WHYYY?!? It... it was right there. Just comment out some useless line somewhere and push out a teensy update.

Sigh. Oh well.

While I think it would be cool to see the older versions, looking at it from ConcernedApe's perspective, those are incomplete games. He wants you to play the whole thing, not a smallStardew. However I think v1.3 was feature-complete with the addition of multiplayer and some other things when compared to his initial vision for the game (see his Dev Notes which I'm always pushing) so being able to play that version might be a very nice option. If you have the GOG version of Stardew and kept your offline installers, you can do this at any time but really, making this available to everyone would make a lot of people very happy.

It's very hard, the code not only builds upon itself but has been removed and added which prevents some simple toggle. The only way would be to set up some sort of launching or download service where players (and only on pc/maybe android at that) could download specific versions. (steam already has this for 1.5.6 but for other platforms it would be nigh on impossible)

It's not too hard currently to downpatch on pc but isn't really allowed in the TOS and is mostly a side thing for speedrunners/challenge runners like myself who wish to use older sets of features.

Hangout feature where you can get an NPC to follow you everywhere (like in littlewood if anyone has played that). They don't need to fight or anything but it would be nice if some could, maybe even get different bonuses with different NPCs, like going to the mines/cavern with Abigail you get a damage boost

edit: Make Marnie romanceable as well:whistle:
